About the Team:

The Chef Tech team builds and maintains the tools that empower chefs on our platform to operate efficiently and profitably. As part of the Data Engineering team, we ensure that chefs have access to data-driven insights, performance analytics, and operational tools to enhance their experience.

The team is responsible for three key areas:

1. Chef Products & Insights – Developing tools that help chefs analyze their performance, optimize menu offerings, and enhance their experience on CookUnity.
2. Operational Data & Reporting Pipelines – Ensuring internal teams have real-time, structured, and accessible data to drive decision-making.
3. Scalable & Reliable Data Infrastructure – Building and optimizing batch and streaming data pipelines that serve multiple business domains, including marketing, finance, and chef operations.

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join the Chef Tech team, with a strong emphasis on frontend development using ReactJS/React Native. This engineer will play a pivotal role in creating seamless, intuitive, and high-performance chef-facing applications while also contributing to backend services in NodeJS/TypeScript.

This role requires someone who can own frontend architecture decisions, advocate for best practices, and work closely with designers and product managers to create an outstanding user experience. While the focus is on frontend development, the engineer will also contribute to backend services that support chef tools and data products.

As part of the Ops Engineering R&D squad, you will also have the opportunity to explore new technologies and contribute to proof-of-concept projects aimed at improving CookUnity’s operations across chef, fulfillment, and logistics.

Responsibilities:

1. Design and implement chef-facing applications using ReactJS and React Native, ensuring high performance, usability, and accessibility.
2. Develop scalable and maintainable frontend architecture, following best practices in modularization, state management, and performance optimization.
3. Build and maintain backend services in NodeJS/TypeScript, integrating with our data pipelines and chef tools.
4. Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and other engineers to create intuitive and efficient user interfaces.
5. Advocate for frontend best practices, including code quality, testing, and performance optimization.
6. Contribute to the Ops Engineering R&D squad, experimenting with new technologies and building POCs to improve operational efficiency.
7. Ensure our chef products are highly available, reliable, and scalable, supporting a growing community of chefs on our platform.
8. Write clean, well-documented, and testable code, contributing to a culture of engineering excellence.

Minimum Requirements:

1. 5+ years of experience in frontend development using ReactJS and React Native.
2. Proficiency in TypeScript and NodeJS, with experience building backend services.
3. Strong knowledge of frontend performance optimization, component design, and state management.
4. Experience working with RESTful APIs and GraphQL.
5. Familiarity with frontend testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, etc.).
6. Excellent problem-solving skills, with a passion for user experience and frontend craftsmanship.
7. Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced startup environment and take ownership of features end-to-end.
8. This is a hybrid position, requiring on-site presence at the Brooklyn office 2-3 days per week (Tuesday-Thursday).

Preferred Requirements:

1. Experience with mobile development using React Native.
2. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and frontend build systems.
3. Background in data-driven applications, data visualization, or analytics products.
4. Experience with serverless architectures and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
5. Passion for experimenting with new technologies and frameworks.
