Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Environment Artist to join their creative team in Sandton. You will craft immersive game environments, create 3D assets, blockouts, and finalize environment art, collaborating with level designers and art directors.

The role emphasizes visual storytelling with realism or stylized aesthetics. Required are a strong portfolio, experience with Maya/3ds Max/ZBrush/Substance Painter, and Unreal or Unity. This is a hybrid role offering growth in a dynamic studio.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience as an Environment Artist in the game industry.
• Strong portfolio showcasing environmental art for games with realism or stylized aesthetics.
• Proficiency in Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance Painter.
• Experience with Unreal Engine or Unity, including level assembly and lighting.
• Understanding of architecture, landscape design, and natural forms.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to take direction.

Responsibilities

• Create high-quality 3D environment assets, including props, structures, and terrain.
• Assemble and dress game levels, ensuring compelling composition, lighting, and atmosphere.
• Collaborate with level designers to block out and iterate on level layouts.
• Develop and implement textures, materials, and shaders for environmental elements.
• Optimize environment assets for performance and memory usage across target platforms.
• Maintain consistency in art style and quality throughout the game world.
