Job summary

Yalo is seeking a Sr. Staff Data Engineer to own the data platform powering analytics, dashboards, and AI agents. This senior role focuses on architecture, standards, and technical leadership, not people management, ensuring reliable, governed data flows from events to agent-ready information.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Analytics, and ML/AI teams to keep the data pipeline robust, scalable, and cost-efficient while enabling seamless data access for dashboards and AI workloads.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
• Experience: 8+ years in Data/Data Analytics Engineering with staff/principal ownership.
• Technical: deep hands-on with Airflow, dbt, BigQuery, Kafka and GCP tooling.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve Yalo's data platform to ensure 99.9% uptime and clear SLAs.
• Define modular real-time, agent-ready data architecture for dashboards and AI.
• Own the semantic layer across Looker, Power BI, and IRIS to prevent drift.
• Build semantic data layer for both humans and agents to reason over core concepts.
• Own data governance with role-based access controls and audits.
• Define boundary between Data Engineering and Business Analytics for autonomy.
• Drive 20% infrastructure cost efficiency across BigQuery, dbt, Kafka, Airflow.
• Lead incident response when pipelines break and dashboards are affected.
• Set standards and mentor engineers via reviews and architecture decisions.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Analytics PM, Business Analytics, and ML/AI teams.
