Job summary

SQUIRE is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build and maintain payment systems and financial infrastructure for our platform. You will work within the Payments Team and Platform Community, focusing on scalable, robust payment flows and double-entry ledgers, while aligning with engineering leadership.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of Node.js development experience.
• Proven payments/fintech domain experience in production.
• Understanding of authorization, capture, refund, void and chargebacks.
• Experience with reconciliation between internal and external systems.
• Knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and financial ledgers.
• Designing idempotent operations in distributed payment systems.
• Strong architecture and best-practices background.
• Clear communication and collaboration, English required.
• Bachelor’s in CS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-quality payment features and financial infrastructure using Node.js.
• Design and maintain reliable payment processing flows and ledgers with idempotent operations.
• Collaborate with product and other engineers to integrate payment systems with the platform.
• Participate in code reviews and feedback to improve code quality.
• Participate in interview panels and contribute to hiring practices.
• Contribute to Platform Community and share knowledge on policy direction.
• Work with Engineering Manager following guidance and direction.
• Troubleshoot and resolve defects in payment-critical systems.
