Prometeo Talent is partnering with a US-based cybersecurity startup to attract a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in startup environments and enjoys building scalable systems from the ground up. You will design, build, and maintain distributed backend services with Java and Python, collaborating with a highly technical team.

The role emphasizes ownership, AI-assisted development workflows, and end-to-end feature ownership across the lifecycle.

Formación

• 8+ years in software engineering or backend development.
• 5+ years Python experience in production systems.
• Strong Java background in backend services.
• Hands-on AI/LLM-based development experience preferred.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, data pipelines, and async processing.
• Experience with databases, queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Strong ownership mindset in fast-paced startup settings.
• Advanced English level.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in startup environments and enjoys building scalable systems from the ground up.

This role is ideal for engineers who combine deep backend expertise with a strong ownership mindset . You will play a key role in designing , building , and maintaining distributed systems while collaborating with a highly technical and fast-moving team.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with Java and Python , enjoys solving complex engineering problems, and embraces AI-assisted development workflows to increase productivity without compromising quality.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Python.

• Develop distributed systems involving databases, APIs, message queues, and data processing pipelines.

• Take full ownership of features and services throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation to monitoring and optimization.

• Build production-ready systems with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability.

• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

• Improve system performance, scalability, and operational efficiency across the platform.

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while ensuring code quality and engineering best practices.

• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to key technical decisions as the company scales.

• Continuously improve development processes, tooling, and engineering standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering or backend development.

• 5+ professional experience with Python , building and maintaining production-grade backend systems.

• Strong experience with Java .

• Hands-on experience with AI/LLM-based application development (AI agents, agentic systems, or LLM-powered applications)

• Experience building AI-driven features, LLM integrations, or agentic workflows in production environments is highly preferred.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalable architectures, and asynchronous processing.

• Experience working with databases, message queues, and data processing pipelines .

• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.

• Proven experience building, maintaining, optimizing, and improving products after launch.

• Strong ownership mindset, autonomy, and ability to thrive in startup or fast-paced environments .

• Advanced English level

Nice to have

• Experience working in product-focused companies, owning products beyond the initial development phase.

• Experience in cybersecurity products or security-focused platforms.

• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging systems.

• Experience building large-scale distributed data processing systems.

• Background in high-growth startups or scale-ups.
