Job description

About the role

As a QHSSE Officer at Jan De Nul in Argentina, you help make sure our projects are carried out safely, to the right quality standards and with respect for people and the environment. Our projects keep navigation channels open, deepen and maintain river and coastal ports, and build land reclamation and coastal protection schemes. You will work in a dynamic environment and gain valuable experience along the way.A policy only matters if it works on site. We are looking for a QHSSE Officer who helps turn our quality, health, safety, security and environmental policy into daily practice. You will take ownership of QHSSE for specific vessels or a specific work location, working closely with the crews, the operational teams, project management and the QHSSE Advisor.

What you’ll do

As a QHSSE Officer, you apply and follow up our QHSSE policy on board and on site, and help improve it where needed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Following up the implementation of the QHSSE Management Systems for the vessels or work location assigned to you, in line with group standards and local legislation.
  • Supporting the QHSSE documentation that comes with our operations, such as project QHSSE implementation plans and emergency plans.
  • Carrying out QHSSE inspections on board and on site, and following up the actions that come out of them.
  • Taking part in internal and external audits and helping follow up corrective actions.
  • Contributing to risk analyses together with the operational teams, and helping translate them into concrete preventive measures.
  • Following up QHSSE KPIs for your vessels or work location and reporting on them.
  • Giving toolbox talks, information sessions and training so that crews and employees understand QHSSE risks and how to mitigate them.
  • Encouraging crews and teams to keep improving QHSSE performance in their daily work.

Of course, you will not be doing this on your own: you can rely on the guidance of the QHSSE Advisor and the support of QHSSE colleagues in Argentina and across the group.

Your base in Buenos AiresYou will be based at our office in Buenos Aires, working from Monday to Friday. In practice, a large part of your time will be spent on board the vessels and at the work location you are responsible for. Because audits, inspections and incidents do not always follow a fixed schedule, we count on your flexibility to work outside regular hours or travel at short notice when the situation requires it.

What do you need to have? You are curious, well-organised and not afraid to speak up on site, and you see safety and quality as part of the job, not an add‑on.

  • A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or a related field.
  • A first experience in a QHSSE role, ideally in construction, maritime or industrial operations.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and with Argentine health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Good verbal and written Spanish and English.
  • You live in Argentina and are entitled to work here.
