REDPATH MINING is seeking a Project Engineer to provide engineering support for underground development and construction projects. This role involves coordinating and managing engineering efforts, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and preparing construction and fabrication drawings.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, along with 3-5 years of experience in the mining sector. Strong skills in AutoCAD and project management are essential, along with the ability to work safely in a mining environment.

Overview

The Project Engineer provides engineering support for underground development, mass excavation and construction projects. Responsibilities include the preparation, scheduling, coordination, forecasting, resourcing and monitoring of assigned engineering projects to ensure the projects overall accuracy and quality.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in planning, coordination, procurement, and management of the overall design and engineering process.
  • Ensures that engineering designs follow all applicable regulations and safety standards.
  • Identify and correct daily operational problems and take necessary action.
  • Identify changes and variations to the works under the Contract and ensure these issues are recorded, tracked, and otherwise managed in accordance with the Contract.
  • Collect information and prepare daily reports on underground mine development.
  • Provide technical support, quality, and environmental control of the works in accordance with the contract specifications and the relevant statutory regulations.
  • Schedules project activities in conjunction with the Engineering Manager.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly mine development forecasts.
  • Prepares construction and fabrication drawings and supports construction crews to ensure that work done meets technical requirements.
  • Address and troubleshoot daily activity issues needing action.
  • Conducts cycle studies and estimates performance rates.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, policies and procedures as related.
  • Prepare and review change order requests and determine the technical requirements for implementation the changes.
  • Ensure that all construction is drafted, and specifications determined prior to the associated construction activity.
  • Ensure that all work is completed to acceptable technical and quality standards.
  • Attend meetings and interact with client representatives.
  • Tours work areas to ensure that quality and scope of work is being accomplished.
  • Compiles redline drawings to ensure drawing register is up to date with current as-built conditions.
  • If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
  • Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
  • Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  • Required: 3-5 years’ experience in a mining environment.
  • Computer Skills: AutoCAD, Structural Engineering Software, MS Office, Hard Dollar, Primavera, SharePoint, E-mail, Internet, Photocopier Equipment, Telephone Systems
  • Knowledge: Project Management skills; Strong AutoCAD skills; Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Word and Excel; Knowledge of underground mine plants, shaft sinking, underground mining/development and mining equipment; Strong Leadership Skills; Good Decision Maker; Achievement orientation; Highly competent in Conflict Management; Excellent Presentation Skills; Excellent Negotiation Skills; High analytical Skills; Strong Problem-Solving Skills; Motivational Skills; Highly effective organizational skills; Very strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships; Ability to work independently and collaboratively; Strong written and reporting skills; Ability to read and understand engineering prints; Knowledge of mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining.
