• Technical Leadership & Escalation Management: Provide guidance to L1/L2 teams and set ops standards.
• System Administration & Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize system performance and capacity.
• Security Administration: Design and enforce i security controls, SSL/Digital Certificates, SSH security.
• Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity: Oversee backups, recovery planning, and DR readiness.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design and manage HA/DR environments and tests.
• Storage Administration: Manage internal/external storage, IFS, and performance tuning.
• Network & Infrastructure Management: Configure TCP/IP networking and connectivity for i systems.
• Job & Workload Management: Administer Advanced Job Scheduler and production workload strategies.
• Tape Library & Device Administration: Manage tape devices, firmware, lifecycle, and retention policies.
• System Maintenance & Upgrades: Plan OS upgrades and PTF management across partitions.
• HMC Administration: Install/configure/manage HMC, firmware upgrades, user access and backups.
• VIOS Administration: Install and maintain VIOS, configure SEA/NPIV, storage presentations, upgrades.
• Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Coordinate with vendors, participate in architecture reviews and governance.
• Work Environment: 24x7 enterprise production support, on-call rotations, and upgrade/ migration leadership.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced AS/400 (iSeries) System Administrator - L3 to lead the administration, optimization, modernization, and support of enterprise i environments. The ideal candidate will serve as the highest level of technical escalation for i infrastructure, providing expertise in performance tuning, security, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, storage management, and system upgrades. The role requires strong technical leadership, solution design capabilities, vendor coordination, and the ability to mentor L1 and L2 support teams while ensuring the reliability, availability, and security of business-critical i platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Escalation Management

• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to L1 Operators and L2 Administrators.
• Develop operational procedures, standards, and best practices for i administration.

System Administration & Performance Optimization

• Analyze and optimize system performance, Assessments and capacity planning.
• Generate executive-level reports on system availability, performance, and operational metrics.

Security Administration

• Design and administer i security policies and controls.
• Implement and maintain SSL Certificates, Digital Certificates, SSH Security, Secure Key Generation
• Support security audits, compliance requirements, and vulnerability remediation activities

Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity

• Ensure successful execution and monitoring of backup schedules.
• Analyze backup failures, unsaved objects, and BRMS-related issues.
• Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies aligned with business requirements

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

• Design, implement, and administer High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) environments.
• Lead DR planning, testing, failover, and failback activities.
• Ensure HA/DR environments meet organizational RPO and RTO objectives.

Storage Administration

• Administer internal and external storage environments.
• Perform storage expansion, disk balancing, performance tuning, and storage security configuration.
• Administer the Integrated File System (IFS).

Network & Infrastructure Management

• Design, configure, and troubleshoot TCP/IP networking on i systems.
• Administer network connectivity for servers, HMCs, tape libraries, and integrated services.

Job & Workload Management

• Administer Advanced Job Scheduler environments.
• Design and manage job scheduling strategies for production workloads.

Tape Library & Device Administration

• Administer enterprise tape library infrastructure.
• Manage tape devices, firmware upgrades, media Lifecycle, Tape movement and retention policies.

System Maintenance & Upgrades

• Plan and execute i operating system upgrades & PTF Management
• Lead infrastructure maintenance and upgrade activities.
• Support application deployments across all i partitions.

HMC Administration

• Install, configure, and administer Hardware Management Consoles (HMC).
• Create and manage managed systems, frames, and partitions.
• Perform HMC software updates and upgrades.
• Configure user access, security policies, and system monitoring.
• Maintain HMC backups and recovery procedures.
• Plan and execute Power server firmware upgrades.
• Coordinate firmware updates with business and application teams.
• Validate compatibility of firmware, OS, HMC, and VIOS levels.
• Perform pre-upgrade and post-upgrade health checks.
• Troubleshoot firmware-related issues and escalations.
• Call home Setup & SSL Certificate update

VIOS Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain Virtual I/O Servers (VIOS).
• Configure Virtual SCSI, NPIV, Virtual Ethernet, and Shared Ethernet Adapters (SEA).
• Manage storage presentations and SAN connectivity.
• Perform VIOS upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting.
• Ensure high availability and redundancy of virtualized resources.
• Perform LPAR disk management (add /remove disks for LPAR) on VIOS
• Setup Virtual Media Library management on VIOS for i LPARs (OS Load). Configure VTLs for backup

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

• Coordinate with Third-party vendors for problem resolution and support cases.
• Participate in architecture reviews and infrastructure planning discussions.
• Provide technical consultation to project teams and business stakeholders.
• Lead service improvement initiatives and operational governance meetings.

Work Environment

• 24x7 enterprise production support environment.
• Participation in on-call rotations and critical incident management.
• Lead planned maintenance, upgrades, migration projects, and disaster recovery exercises outside business hours when required.
