Job summary

Political Asylum Lawyers in Houston is seeking a dedicated translator to translate client evidence into English for USCIS and Immigration Court filings and to prepare certified translations meeting USCIS/EOIR requirements.

You will translate client declarations and firm communications from English into Spanish (and French if possible), follow PAL's standards, and manage a queue of translation tasks in Asana while collaborating closely with paralegals and attorneys.

Qualifications

• Detail-oriented with strong attention to dates, names, and numbers.
• Accountable for deadlines, quality, and proactive communication.
• Highly organized to manage competing priorities and filing order.
• Team player who communicates clearly within a legal team.
• Native or near-native English and Spanish (C2) written and spoken.
• 2+ years of professional translation experience, ideally including legal/immigration docs.

Responsibilities

• Translate client evidence into English for USCIS and Immigration Court filings, including IDs, birth/marriage certificates, police reports, medical records, threats, news articles, and witness letters.
• Prepare certified translations with a certificate of translation meeting USCIS/EOIR requirements.
• Translate client declarations and firm communications from English into Spanish (and French if possible).
• Follow PAL's translation standards across every case.
• Manage a steady queue of translation tasks in Asana, prioritize by filing deadline, and flag anything at risk.
• Work closely with paralegals, legal assistants, and attorneys.
• Quality-check your own work before delivery, as documents are filed with the U.S. government.
