Job description

This role involves building full-stack applications used across multiple countries, working closely with the people who rely on them daily. The work is hands‑on and high‑autonomy: owning features end-to-end, from understanding requirements through architecture decisions, implementation, testing, and delivery. The position contributes to technical direction, collaborates with cross‑functional partners to solve real operational challenges, and operates with modern tools and frameworks.

Develop, enhance, test, deploy, document, and maintain software applications across the full technology stack, including frontend, backend, database, server, networking, and solution architecture components.

Provide application development services and technical support for existing systems and new technology deployments. Gather business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions and specifications.

Design, develop, analyze, and modify application logic to meet business needs, evaluating multiple solution options and recommending the most effective approach.

Write high-quality, maintainable code; create and execute test plans; perform debugging and troubleshooting; and ensure compliance with established software development standards and best practices.

Support and enhance cloud‑based and third‑party applications throughout their lifecycle, ensuring reliability, performance, security, and alignment with business objectives.

Develop technology strategies and implement improvements that maximize the value of existing products, while considering impacts across applications, integrations, and business processes.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on initiatives involving application systems, data processes, integrations, and data governance practices.

Take end‑to‑end ownership of assigned work by accurately estimating effort, delivering tested and reviewed solutions, and proactively communicating progress, risks, and blockers.

Leverage AI‑assisted development tools responsibly and in accordance with organizational policies, ensuring the ability to understand, explain, validate, and modify all generated code.

Mentor and coach software developers through code reviews, technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem‑solving activities.

Partner with development teams and stakeholders across the United States, Brazil, and Latin America to deliver technology solutions that support national offices, churches, and end users.

Engage directly with users and business partners when required to resolve software issues, gather additional requirements, and support the delivery of new functionality.

Interpret business and user requirements, translate them into technical implementations, and incorporate feedback received through code reviews and quality assurance processes.

Contribute to the definition, adoption, and continuous improvement of software engineering standards, development methodologies, and technical best practices.

Champion child protection by integrating safeguarding considerations into daily work, adhering to Compassion’s Child Protection policies and Code of Conduct, and reporting any concerns through established processes.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in full-stack web development.

Experience with PHP/Laravel, APIs, databases, and backend technologies.

Proven ability to design, develop, and implement end‑to‑end software solutions.

Strong understanding of servers, networking, and application architecture.

Experience conducting and participating in code reviews.

Ability to explain technical decisions and communicate project status, risks, and results effectively.

Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and self‑management.

Experience mentoring or coaching other developers.

Strong collaboration skills and experience working with distributed teams.

Professional proficiency in English and Spanish.

Ability to use AI‑assisted development tools responsibly while maintaining full ownership of delivered solutions.
