AgileEngine is seeking a Backend Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable systems for a Product-led engineering team. This role emphasizes Java and/or Kotlin with Spring Boot, GraphQL, MongoDB, and Aurora MySQL on AWS, spanning operational tooling to system architecture.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, participate in reviews, and drive observability, testing, and cost-efficiency initiatives. Fluent English and Spanish are required; Argentina candidates preferred.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend-focused software development experience.

Responsibilities

• Take on lower-priority engineering work including compliance, maintenance, cost-savings, observability, and tool development.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable, performant, reliable software systems.
• Contribute to system architecture and design, validating solutions with data and experiments.
• Participate in code reviews and design reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners including software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and designers.

• Architect and develop high-performance backend services using NestJS, ensuring scalability and maintainability
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL database schemas and query performance
• Implement complex business logic and integration patterns for financial service workflows
• Create and maintain RESTful APIs with exceptional performance characteristics
• Develop robust data modeling strategies that support complex financial service configurations
• Lead backend system design and technical decision-making
• Leverage AWS cloud services to build scalable and reliable infrastructure
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall engineering team culture
• Implement comprehensive testing strategies, including unit and integration testing
• Establish and maintain backend observability and monitoring infrastructure
• Collaborate closely with frontend, product, and design teams to ensure seamless system integration

You'll be a great fit if you have:

• 7+ years of professional Node.js development experience
• Extensive experience with NestJS framework
• 6+ years of professional experience with PostgreSQL and relational database design
• Fluency in English & Spanish (Must). The team primarily communicates in Spanish, so strong written and verbal Spanish skills are essential.
• Proven track record of designing scalable, high-performance backend systems
• Strong experience with RESTful API design and implementation
• Expertise in database optimization and performance tuning
• Comprehensive knowledge of backend testing methodologies

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Take on lower-priority engineering work the team lacks bandwidth for, including compliance and engineering maintenance, cost-savings, observability, experiment clean-up, and operational tool development.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable, performant, and reliable software systems.
• Contribute to system architecture and technical design, validating solutions through data and experimentation where appropriate.
• Participate in code reviews and design reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and designers.
• Partner with a Product Manager and fellow engineers to clarify requirements and perform mid-level design work, focusing primarily on coding, testing, and documentation.
