Job summary

Howard Financial is seeking an experienced Accountant to own day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of vacation rental clients. This fully remote role involves month-end close, reconciliations, owner reporting, and channel-fee tracking for US-based clients, with room to grow toward Senior Accountant.

You will handle journal entries, reconciliations, owner statements, and tax filings while communicating directly with property managers to resolve items and maintain accuracy across multiple client

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years accounting experience, with vacation rental or property management exposure.
• Month-end close and bank reconciliations experience, including trust/escrow accounts.
• Knowledge of owner statements, disbursements, and management fee structures.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar cloud accounting platform.
• Hands-on with Ramp or Sage.
• Solid US GAAP and accrual accounting understanding.
• Professional English (C1) for client communication.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare month-end close for a portfolio of vacation rental clients, including journal entries, accruals, and close checklists.
• Reconcile operating and trust/escrow accounts, credit cards, and clearing accounts monthly.
• Reconcile PMS data (reservations, payouts, fees) against bank deposits and GL.
• Prepare owner statements and support owner disbursements, management fees, and channel commissions.
• Record and reconcile OTA payouts (Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com) and track deposits and refunds.
• Manage accounts payable/receivable workflows, vendor bills, cleaning and maintenance charges.
• Prepare monthly financial statements for Senior Accountant or Controller review.
• Support occupancy and lodging tax calculations and year-end 1099 preparation.
• Communicate with clients and managers to resolve open items and discrepancies.
• Flag process gaps and suggest improvements to speed up close.

Role Purpose

We're looking for an Accountant to join our Vacation Rental team and own the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of property management clients. You'll sit above core bookkeeping and work under the review of a Senior Accountant or Controller, running month-end close, reconciliations, and owner reporting for short-term rental businesses.

This is a fully remote role working with US-based clients. It's a strong fit for someone who knows the vacation rental cash cycle and wants a clear path toward Senior Accountant.

What You'll Do

• Prepare month-end close for a portfolio of vacation rental clients, including journal entries, accruals, and close checklists.

• Reconcile operating and trust/escrow bank accounts, credit cards, and clearing accounts on a monthly basis.

• Reconcile PMS data (reservations, payouts, fees) against bank deposits and the general ledger.

• Prepare owner statements and support owner disbursements, management fee calculations, and channel commission tracking.

• Record and reconcile OTA payouts (Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com) and track guest deposits, security deposits, and refunds.

• Manage accounts payable and receivable workflows, including vendor bills, cleaning and maintenance charges, and owner reimbursements.

• Prepare monthly financial statements for Senior Accountant or Controller review.

• Support occupancy and lodging tax calculations and filings, plus year-end 1099 preparation.

• Communicate with clients and property managers to resolve open items, missing documentation, and discrepancies.

• Flag process gaps and suggest improvements to make close faster and cleaner.

Must-Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year in vacation rental or property management.
• Hands-on experience with month-end close and bank reconciliations, including trust or escrow accounts.
• Working knowledge of owner statements, owner disbursements, and management fee structures.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online or a similar cloud accounting platform.

• Hands-on experience with Ramp or Sage.

• Solid understanding of US GAAP and accrual accounting.

• Professional English (C1), written and spoken, for direct client communication.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with PMS platforms such as Guesty, Streamline, Track, Hostaway, Escapia, or OwnerRez.
• Familiarity with Bill.com or similar AP tools.
• Exposure to occupancy and lodging tax compliance across multiple US states or municipalities.
• Prior experience at an outsourced accounting firm or managing multiple clients at once.

• CPA, CA, or equivalent certification in progress.

Not a Fit If

• You're looking for a purely transactional bookkeeping role with no ownership of the close.
