Job summary

Confidential Careers is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to lead safety analyses across the aircraft lifecycle. You will develop FHA/PSSA/SSA/ZSA/CMA, translate analyses into safety requirements, and ensure traceability from system to component levels.

You will collaborate with systems engineering, support certification activities, and contribute to flight test safety actions while maintaining continuous improvement of safety processes within the company.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a System Safety Engineer in the aerospace industry during aircraft development, integration, test and certification phases.
  • Solid understanding of certification regulations and guidance (FAA/ EASA).
  • Experience developing and maintaining FHA, PSSA, SSA, ZSA, CMA, PRA.

  • Perform system safety engineering activities during the aircraft lifecycle.
  • Develop, update and maintain system safety assessments (FHA, PSSA, SSA, ZSA, CMA).
  • Define safety requirements derived from safety analyses and ensure traceability.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering and design teams to implement safety requirements.
  • Support definition of system architecture and safety mitigation actions; review design changes for safety objectives.
  • Participate in aircraft integration activities to achieve safety objectives.
  • Provide system safety inputs to mandated reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR).
  • Liaise with certification authorities and suppliers; support flight test activities with safety inputs.

Job description

  • Perform system safety engineering activities during the aircraft lifecycle, from system definition and development through verification, validation, and certification.
  • Develop, update and maintain system safety assessments in accordance with applicable regulations, aerospace standards, and guidance, including:
  • Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA).
  • Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA).
  • System Safety Assessments (SSA).
  • Zonal Safety Assessments (ZSA).
  • Common Mode Analyses (CMA).
  • Master Minimum Equipment List (MMEL) safety justifications.
  • Define safety requirements derived from safety analyses, ensuring proper allocation, implementation, traceability, and verification at aircraft, system, and item level.
  • Coordinate closely with systems engineering and design teams to ensure safety requirements are correctly implemented.
  • Support definition of the systems architecture, define safety mitigation actions, and review design changes resulting from system development to achieve required safety objectives.
  • Participate in aircraft integration activities ensuring safety objectives are achieved.
  • Provide system safety inputs to mandated system reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR).
  • Liaise with certification authorities and suppliers.
  • Support flight test activities by providing system safety inputs, classifying occurrences according to their impact on safety, and contributing to the definition of mitigation actions.
  • Support continuous improvement of the company system safety processes and provide system safety guidance to engineers when required.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent technical engineering degree.
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a System Safety Engineer in the aerospace industry during aircraft development, integration, test, and certification phases for civil and/or military aircraft programs.
  • Good knowledge of applicable certification regulations and guidance, such as:
  • 14 CFR Part 23 and/or EASA CS-23.
  • FAA AC 23.1309-1E.
  • Solid understanding and application of ARP4761 and ARP4754.
  • Experience developing and maintaining all of the following system safety activities: FHA, PSSA, SSA, ZSA, PRA, CMA.
