Context
The Student Counsellor - School Wellbeing will play a central role in supporting students' academic, social, emotional, and personal development. The position works closely with students, parents, teachers, school leaders, and external professionals to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual counselling to students facing academic, emotional, behavioural, social, or personal challenges.
- Deliver group counselling sessions that support confidence, resilience, peer relationships, emotional awareness, and healthy decision‑making.
- Identify students who require additional support and develop practical intervention plans in collaboration with teachers and school leaders.
- Work with parents, teachers, and leadership teams to address student concerns, monitor progress, and agree appropriate support strategies.
- Conduct classroom workshops on wellbeing, mental health awareness, bullying prevention, digital citizenship, stress management, life skills, and positive behaviour.
- Support students during important transitions including new admissions, grade progression, school changes, and career or higher education planning where applicable.
- Maintain confidential counselling records, case notes, reports, and documentation in line with school policies and UAE regulations.
- Respond to safeguarding and child protection concerns by following school procedures, reporting pathways, and professional standards.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to individual student support plans.
- Refer students to external specialists, therapists, psychologists, agencies, or medical professionals when additional support is required.
- Coordinate follow‑up support after referrals to ensure students continue receiving appropriate care and guidance.
- Promote a positive school culture through preventive counselling programmes, wellbeing initiatives, awareness campaigns, and student support activities.
- Assist with crisis intervention and provide calm, professional support during emergencies or critical incidents.
- Contribute to the development and review of policies related to student wellbeing, safeguarding, counselling, and mental health support.
- Build trust with students while maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical counselling practice.
Ideal Profile
- Master's degree in Psychology, Counselling, School Counselling, Clinical Psychology, or a related field.
- Professional counselling qualification or licence recognised in the UAE is preferred.
- Minimum 2-5 years of counselling experience, preferably in a CBSE or international school.
- Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, student wellbeing, emotional support, and behavioural intervention strategies.
- Knowledge of CBSE guidelines and school‑based wellbeing practices is an advantage.
- Ability to assess student needs and design appropriate counselling or intervention plans.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, listening, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Confidence working with students, families, teachers, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage case records, reports, meetings, and follow‑up actions.
- High level of confidentiality, professional ethics, emotional maturity, and sound judgement.
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Knowledge of Hindi or other Indian languages is an advantage.
