School Counselor – British Curriculum in Dubai is a full‑time Education sector role for a qualified, resourceful counseling professional who can support students’ academic, personal, social, emotional, and career development within a British curriculum school.

Role Context

The School Counselor will help students overcome barriers that affect learning, behaviour, wellbeing, confidence, and personal development. The role involves individual counseling, group counseling, behavioural support, psychological and educational assessment, wellbeing programme development, referral follow‑up, parent communication, and collaboration with teachers and school leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive counseling and guidance program for students.
  • Address students’ social, emotional, academic, personal, and career development needs.
  • Conduct needs assessments and use data to identify targeted support areas across the school.
  • Implement effective referral, intervention, and follow‑up processes for students requiring additional support.
  • Provide individual counseling, group counseling, and behavioural counseling services to students.
  • Support teachers in developing and delivering classroom guidance activities based on the school counseling curriculum.
  • Develop and implement wellbeing programmes that promote emotional health, resilience, positive behaviour, and student confidence.
  • Conduct psychological and educational assessments where required.
  • Evaluate student strengths, concerns, learning needs, behavioural patterns, and emotional development needs.
  • Interpret assessment results, test outcomes, student records, and school data to support intervention planning.
  • Represent the school wellbeing team during new student orientation, parent orientation, registration, open days, career events, and other major school programmes.
  • Participate in the development of school policies, procedures, manuals, and guidance documents related to counseling and wellbeing.
  • Communicate the school’s objectives to students, parents, and other stakeholders in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Confer with parents when necessary to understand individual student needs and recommend suitable support strategies.
  • Value and respond to diversity, individual differences, cultural backgrounds, and varied learning needs among students.
  • Implement behaviour and discipline modification plans for grade groups in coordination with the school leadership team.
  • Advocate for students and support their academic, emotional, social, and personal development.
  • Prepare counseling reports, student records, lists, assessment summaries, and other required information and data.
  • Maintain confidentiality, integrity, safeguarding standards, and professional ethics in all counseling activities.
Ideal Profile
  • Master’s degree in Psychology is required.
  • Minimum 2years of school counseling or relevant school‑based experience is required.
  • Proven working experience in schools is required.
  • Experience in a British curriculum school is preferred.
  • Successful full‑time teaching experience or school guidance and counseling experience is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of counseling models, practices, student support strategies, and wellbeing resources.
  • Ability to support students with academic, personal, social, emotional, behavioural, and career‑related concerns.
  • Strong ability to conduct assessments, interpret student records, and prepare professional reports.
  • Excellent communication and engaging interpersonal skills.
  • Integrity, professionalism, sound judgement, and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student community.
  • Computer literacy and ability to maintain accurate counseling documentation.
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with students, parents, teachers, school leaders, and external stakeholders.
