Role Context
The Structural Engineer will provide specialist engineering support for facade and aluminum systems throughout design development, fabrication, and installation. The position requires strong analytical capability to verify structural performance under wind, dead, live, thermal, and project-specific loads while ensuring that profiles, reinforcements, brackets, anchors, and connections remain within acceptable stress and deflection limits. The role also connects engineering with practical delivery. Structural calculations must translate into workable shop drawings, fabrication details, and site installation solutions that can be executed efficiently without compromising safety, quality, or architectural intent.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design for curtain walls, glazing systems, cladding, windows, doors, skylights, louvers, and related facade components.
- Prepare structural calculations for aluminum profiles, mullions, transoms, steel reinforcements, brackets, anchors, and connection systems.
- Evaluate wind loads, dead loads, live loads, thermal movement, and other project-specific loading conditions.
- Verify stresses, deflections, stability, connection capacity, and overall structural performance.
- Recommend appropriate structural members, reinforcement methods, fixing systems, and profile configurations.
- Review architectural, structural, and facade drawings to identify engineering requirements and coordination constraints.
- Coordinate with facade designers, BIM Modelers, Architects, production teams, and other engineering disciplines.
- Provide structural guidance during design development and shop drawing preparation.
- Ensure proposed structural solutions are compatible with factory fabrication methods and site installation requirements.
- Review shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and installation details for consistency with approved calculations.
- Prepare structural calculation reports, technical submissions, and engineering documentation for consultant and authority review.
- Maintain proper revision control for calculations, reports, and technical deliverables.
- Support the preparation of method statements, technical proposals, and engineering responses where required.
- Work closely with factory personnel to resolve fabrication-related structural issues.
- Coordinate steel reinforcement, bracket, fixing, and connection requirements with Production teams.
- Provide site engineering support for anchors, brackets, tolerances, connections, and installation constraints.
- Investigate structural concerns arising during installation and recommend technically sound corrective solutions.
- Participate in technical meetings, coordination sessions, and site inspections when required.
- Assess non-conformities involving facade structural systems and support QA/QC teams with resolution.
- Identify potential structural risks at design, fabrication, or installation stages and propose appropriate mitigation.
- Ensure calculations and designs comply with project specifications, applicable UAE requirements, and relevant international standards.
- Coordinate structural interfaces between facade systems and the primary building structure.
- Support technical clarification responses and RFIs related to structural performance.
- Verify that design changes are reflected consistently across structural calculations, drawings, and fabrication documentation.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- 5-8 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
- Strong background in aluminum, facade, curtain wall, glazing, cladding, or building envelope systems.
- Demonstrated experience performing structural analysis for aluminum profiles and facade support systems.
- Strong understanding of wind loading, stress analysis, deflection criteria, thermal movement, and connection design.
- Practical knowledge of mullions, transoms, steel reinforcements, anchors, brackets, and fixing systems.
- Experience working with curtain wall and glazing systems from design through fabrication and installation.
- Proficient in structural analysis software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong AutoCAD capability.
- Knowledge of Revit or BIM workflows is advantageous.
- Familiar with Eurocode, BS, AAMA, ASTM, and project-specific engineering standards.
- Able to interpret architectural, structural, facade, and fabrication drawings accurately.
- Experience coordinating with designers, factories, production personnel, consultants, and site teams.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
- Able to produce clear calculation reports and defend engineering decisions during technical reviews.
- Experience in an aluminum fabrication or facade manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
- UAE or GCC project experience is preferred.
- Comfortable managing multiple technical submissions and design priorities within demanding project programs.
