Qualifications

  • At least 5 to 7 years of all-round Banking experience including exposure to Credit, Operations, and Trade Finance.
  • Core experience of at least 3-5 years in Credit Department and report writing.

Job Overview

Job Title: Sr. Manager - Credit Underwriting

Job Purpose

The role is responsible for preparing credit applications and structuring facilities for corporate customers. These customers could be across multiple industries. Pre and post approval activities of managing credit risk include financial analysis, account monitoring, highlighting early warning signals and ensuring good credit discipline. Specific responsibilities for a portfolio of Commercial and Corporate banking clients, ensuring optimal quality of the assigned portfolio and taking timely credit decisions where appropriate. Application of best practices in monitoring & control, ensuring proactive management & decisions. Work closely with Business, service delivery/support and Product teams on transactions and credit risk management activities.

Key Accountabilities
  • Credit origination and management - Highest standard credit quality in submissions including good structure and financial analysis. Meet customers to validate relevant information. Appropriate recommendations to be detailed in credit applications.
  • Professional advice on credit risk management matters, industry/product specialism and providing innovative risk solutions
  • Exercise judgment in the evaluation and recommendation of Credit proposals
  • Provide input in business and credit policy/process development
  • Jointly responsible with Business Unit for monitoring and control of the respective portfolio and ensure 100% compliance to policies
  • Advise on risk reward and challenge pricing where appropriate
  • Be the joint contact for credit management purposes for accountants, auditors, regulators, solicitors and other professionals
  • Present Credit proposals directly to Sr.Executive- Wholesale Bank/Commercial Bank and Central Credit Committee
  • Ensure data integrity and attention to details
  • Daily review of the regular monitoring reports that are required from time to time.
  • Maintain a close watch on customers where the limit renewal is late in being submitted and for customers where limits have been agreed but are pending activation. Covenant adherence based on semi-annual / annual accounts forwarded by unit to be monitored in conjunction with Business Unit. Any condition required to be fulfilled post-approval to be diarised and followed-up as appropriate
  • Ensure that post sanctioning monitoring is appropriate to monitor credit risk.
Other Accountabilities
  • Business Credit Partnership - Deliver service in line with agreed business needs
  • Maintain close working relationship with Business Unit and develop a detailed understanding of their portfolio
  • Regular engagement with RM’s to proactively manage client needs and expectations
  • Engage at preliminary stage to ensure effective development and delivery of bespoke credit solutions for customers as appropriate
  • Proactively contribute to embedding agreed change management initiatives in support of process and quality improvements
  • Attend client meetings with BU to better understand client business and any related issues that may need to be resolved
  • Support and contribute to specific industry focus as determined by the Corporate and Credit Teams
  • Work closely with Documentation Unit/Credit Monitoring Unit and support them in review of Facility Offer Letters /T&Cs prior to limit activation. Assist with audit requirements to ensure satisfactory ratings
  • Risk and Compliance
  • • Ensure compliance with all NBF & Regulatory policies and procedures both at an individual account level and at the portfolio level
  • • Ensure all reporting clearly details the risk parameters and highlights all exceptions providing clear mitigations where required
  • • Ensure compliance with accounting standards

Experience and Skills

Work Experience

At least 5 to 7 years of all-round Banking experience including exposure to Credit, Operations and Trade Finance areas. Core experience of at least 3-5yrs in Credit Dept and report writing with any Relationship Management as additional experience. Prior experience of writing credit proposals and seeking credit approvals is a must. Good writing skills for ensuring high quality credit proposals. Prior experience of writing credit proposals and seeking credit approvals is a must. Exposure to marketing area will be an added advantage. Strong product, legal knowledge, collateral knowledge and understanding of security documentation (Facility Offer Letter & supporting sec docs)
