Job summary

STAR SERVICES LLC is seeking an SMP Material Handling Operator to ensure the safe and efficient handling of materials in Abu Dhabi. Responsibilities include receiving and verifying materials, monitoring supply and scrap handling, and maintaining strict adherence to safety and environmental compliance.

The ideal candidate should possess a High School Diploma, have at least 3 years of relevant experience, and demonstrate strong teamwork and coordination skills. A Technical Diploma is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in material handling or yard operations.
• Experience in scrap handling or steelmaking support operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe and efficient handling of raw materials and waste.
• Receive and verify materials against shipping documents.
• Coordinate unloading and stacking with contractors.

Job Title: SMP Material Handling Operator

Job Summary: Responsible for safe and efficient handling of raw materials, scrap, refractories, and by‑products in the Storage Yard and SMP area. The role ensures proper receiving, storage, movement, and supply of materials to steelmaking operations while coordinating with contractors and maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Raw Materials Receiving

• Receive and verify materials against shipping and packing documents.
• Perform visual inspection and collect samples for laboratory testing as per procedure.
• Report discrepancies, damages, or abnormalities immediately to the supervisor.
• Store materials according to defined procedures and work instructions.
• Coordinate unloading and stacking activities with contractors (e.g., Harsco).
• Report daily receiving activities to shift supervisor.

Raw Materials Supply

• Monitor SMP silo levels through visual checks and control room systems.
• Transfer materials between open and closed yards as per operational requirements.
• Operate material handling systems for charging ferro alloys and other materials.
• Support maintenance activities during material handling system upkeep.
• Supply refractory materials to SMP sections as required.
• Ensure smooth coordination with contractors during supply operations.
• Report supply status and operational issues to shift supervisor.

Scrap Handling & Control

• Receive, segregate, and organize scrap as per yard plan.
• Support preparation of scrap baskets and scrap charging activities.
• Ensure correct scrap type, quality, and quantity is charged to SMP.
• Issue scrap charging slips for weighbridge documentation.
• Monitor scrap handling operations and report deviations.

Waste & By‑Products Management

• Ensure safe collection, segregation, transportation, and stacking of waste materials.
• Coordinate disposal of non‑hazardous waste in compliance with environmental standards.
• Maintain records of waste quantities collected and disposed.
• Work closely with production departments for waste handling activities.
• Promote housekeeping and cleanliness in working areas.
• Ensure contractor compliance with environmental and contractual requirements.

Safety & Operational Compliance

• Strictly follow all safety, health, and environmental procedures.
• Immediately report equipment faults, hazards, or unsafe conditions.Take emergency actions as per SOP to minimize risks to personnel and plant.
• Ensure safe work practices during all material handling activities.
• Maintain clean and organized work environment at all times.

Communication & Coordination

• Provide clear shift handover updates to next shift operators.
• Coordinate with contractors, maintenance teams, and production departments.
• Communicate operational issues and ensure timely corrective actions.
• Support smooth plant operations through effective teamwork.

Requirements

Education

• High School Diploma (minimum)
• Technical Diploma (preferred)

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience in material handling, yard operations, or steel plant operations
• Experience in scrap handling, raw material yard, or steelmaking support operations preferred
