Role Context
The Shift Supervisor provides frontline operational control across assigned process plants and Storage and Export facilities. The position coordinates plant personnel, monitors production performance, controls crude oil receipt and export activities, supports equipment isolation and maintenance preparation, and ensures operating conditions remain within approved safety and process parameters. The role has a direct impact on production continuity, product quality, export reliability, asset integrity, and safe plant performance. Effective shift supervision is essential to preventing operational disruptions while maintaining oil production and gas supply commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise process plant and Storage and Export operations during the assigned shift.
- Ensure oil production and gas supply requirements are achieved in accordance with approved operating targets.
- Monitor plant conditions and take timely action to maintain safe, stable, and efficient operations.
- Assist with proving crude oil export and production meters in coordination with relevant regulatory representatives.
- Supervise receipt, storage, transfer, and export of crude oil.
- Monitor operation of crude oil pumps, turbine meters, provers, tanks, and associated export systems.
- Ensure crude oil shipping programs are executed accurately and within required schedules.
- Coordinate tank commissioning and decommissioning activities for maintenance, major overhaul, inspection, and desludging programs.
- Review and prepare operating and commissioning procedures covering process plants and related facilities.
- Verify that operating procedures reflect safe working practices, plant requirements, and approved technical standards.
- Analyse competency development systems to determine the capability and development requirements of process operations personnel.
- Support development of site process personnel through operational coaching and competency assessment.
- Prepare plant and equipment isolation programs for maintenance, overhaul, repair, and modification activities.
- Ensure equipment is properly isolated, depressurized, and free from gas before maintenance work begins.
- Confirm that plant systems are handed over safely for repair and maintenance activities.
- Maintain required shift logbooks, operating records, plant condition reports, and supporting operational documentation.
- Review operating trends and troubleshoot plant and unit problems to restore or maintain optimum performance.
- Coordinate operational responses to process abnormalities, equipment malfunction, or production constraints.
- Liaise with Laboratory Technicians regarding testing of production and export samples.
- Ensure product quality and export specifications are verified through appropriate sampling and laboratory analysis.
- Maintain records of chemicals and consumables used in process and Storage and Export operations.
- Monitor chemical consumption and ensure stock levels remain adequate for uninterrupted operation.
- Coordinate shift activities with maintenance, laboratory, export, production, and other operational support teams.
- Plan and supervise activities within the assigned operating area to achieve functional and production objectives.
- Allocate work effectively among shift personnel and maintain appropriate operational coverage.
- Train and develop assigned employees to strengthen technical competence and operational reliability.
- Provide input for Department and Section budget preparation.
- Support implementation of approved budgets and operational work plans.
- Highlight significant expenditure or performance variances requiring management attention.
- Implement approved operating policies, processes, standards, procedures, and systems.
- Ensure operations comply with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and international standards.
- Contribute to Department and Section performance objectives under the company performance framework.
- Identify opportunities to improve plant reliability, efficiency, operating practices, and shift performance.
- Develop or support implementation of operational tools and techniques that improve process effectiveness.
- Apply recognized industry practices to address recurring operational issues and improve production performance.
- Comply with applicable HSE policies, procedures, controls, sustainability requirements, and ADNOC Codes of Practice.
- Participate in emergency response duties as an assigned team member.
Ideal Profile
The successful candidate should have strong operational experience within oil and gas process plants, production facilities, terminals, storage installations, or similar hydrocarbon processing environments. Practical knowledge of crude oil production, gas supply, storage tanks, export systems, pumps, metering equipment, plant isolation, commissioning, shutdown preparation, and process troubleshooting is important. Candidates should be capable of supervising shift personnel, controlling operating activities, responding to process abnormalities, and coordinating safely with maintenance and technical teams. Experience with tank commissioning and decommissioning, equipment gas freeing, permit-related plant preparation, product quality monitoring, and crude oil export operations will be particularly valuable. The position also requires sound judgment during emergency or abnormal operating conditions and the ability to maintain accurate operational records, production information, and shift documentation.
