Job description

Responsible for leading the origination, structuring, distribution and execution of strategic financing opportunities across EDB’s priority sectors, while developing strong partnerships with local and international financial institutions, DFIs, ECAs and corporates.

The role will drive the function’s growth strategy, strengthen EDB’s institutional and corporate ecosystem, and build a sustainable pipeline of high-quality opportunities aligned with the Bank’s strategic objectives.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Strategic Responsibilities
  • Dual responsibility for corporate origination and loan distribution, with end-to-end ownership of Project Finance, Structured Finance and Trade Finance transactions across GREs and large corporates, from origination and structuring through documentation, execution and relationship management.
  • Drive primary syndication, secondary trading and distribution, while expanding EDB’s investor base across the UAE and wider region to support strategic lending and balance-sheet objectives.
  • Generate high-quality funded assets through direct origination, primary syndication participation, secondary-market acquisitions and trade working capital transactions, within approved risk, return and concentration parameters.
  • Maintain strong relationships with major local, regional and international banks, investors, arrangers, syndication desks, credit teams and loan traders, understanding their sector appetite, credit parameters and investment strategies.
Functional Responsibilities
  • Originate and develop financing opportunities with Corporates, MNCs, and Financial Institutions across corporate lending, project finance, structured finance, syndicated lending and funded trade working capital.
  • Generate liabilities and increase wallet share across the corporate portfolio, driving CASA, deposits, FX and other ancillary revenues. Identify and convert cross-sell opportunities across the client lifecycle, increasing wallet share, fee income and overall relationship profitability.
  • Work closely with other coverage teams on pricing, structure, facility size, tenor, leverage and hold levels, ensuring transactions are structured for marketability and effective syndication/distribution.
  • Conduct credit analysis, financial modelling and transaction assessment, evaluating obligor quality, cash flows, debt capacity, structure, returns and portfolio fit before progressing transactions.
  • Conduct market sounding with prospective lenders and investors to assess credit appetite, pricing, ticket sizes and structural preferences, using market feedback to shape transaction terms and syndication strategy.
  • Prepare and coordinate Information Memorandums, lender/investor information packs, transaction teasers and lender presentations, ensuring accurate and compelling presentation of commercial, financial and credit information.
  • Lead and participate in primary loan syndications, covering underwriting, structuring, pricing, lender engagement, book-building, allocation, hold levels and transaction execution.
  • Manage lender/investor book-building and allocation, balancing EDB’s objectives with lender appetite, oversubscription, hold levels, pricing and distribution requirements.
  • Source, evaluate and execute secondary-market loan acquisitions, assessing credit quality, pricing, yield, liquidity, tenor and portfolio fit to identify attractive funded assets for EDB.
  • Execute loan distribution and sell-downs of EDB-originated and acquired exposures through primary syndication, funded participations, secondary loan sales and other approved distribution structures.
  • Manage the complete syndicated and secondary loan transaction lifecycle, from mandate/RFP, term sheet and underwriting through documentation, financial close, funding, agency, settlement, transfer and post-closing administration.
  • Own and manage the ongoing client relationship and portfolio, proactively managing renewals, amendments, waivers, limit enhancements, repricing and other facility requirements, while identifying new financing, cross-sell and wallet-growth opportunities throughout the relationship lifecycle.
  • Apply strong knowledge of LMA-standard documentation and syndicated loan-market practices, including facility agreements, participations, assignments, novations, transfer certificates, conditions precedent and agency provisions.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of facility and agency functions, including lender coordination, utilisation and drawdown, interest and fee administration, covenant monitoring, waivers, amendments and lender transfers.
  • Deliver agreed loan distribution KPIs, including distribution volume, sell-down ratios, investor participation, secondary-market sales and portfolio recycling, while maintaining target pricing, fees and risk-adjusted returns/RAROC
  • Maintain a qualified origination, syndication and distribution pipeline of at least 2x the relevant annual target, supported by active market intelligence and disciplined transaction conversion.
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of loan-market technology and transaction platforms supporting origination, syndication, secondary trading, documentation, agency, settlement and portfolio management.
  • Ensure all activities comply with EDB’s AML, sanctions, regulatory, credit, compliance and risk-management requirements, while protecting EDB’s reputation and ensuring transactions deliver appropriate commercial and strategic value.
