Job summary

EDGE is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Abu Dhabi to lead the design, development, integration and verification of UAV Ground Control Station software. You will shape mission planning, control, flight monitoring, telemetry visualization, and real-time situational awareness with emphasis on reliability and security.

The role requires strong C/C++ expertise, real-time/embedded systems knowledge, Linux/Windows familiarity, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
• Typically 9-12+ years of relevant software engineering experience in UAV/aerospace/defense/embedded/mission-critical environments.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++ for complex software applications.
• Experience developing UAV GCS software, mission planning, telemetry, or related systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, integration, testing, and maintenance of UAV Ground Control Station software.
• Develop mission planning, command and control, flight monitoring, telemetry visualization, and real-time situational awareness features.
• Lead the development of intuitive HMI/UI for mission operations and real-time vehicle monitoring.
• Integrate UAV autopilots, navigation systems, sensors, avionics, payloads, and communications with GCS apps.
• Design and implement reliable communication interfaces for RF, SATCOM, IP networks, and UAV datalinks.
• Develop real-time data processing for telemetry, navigation, video, and vehicle health monitoring.
• Define and maintain scalable, modular high-performance software architectures.
• Lead code reviews, design reviews, and software estimation/planning.
• Develop automated testing frameworks including unit, integration, system, simulation, and HIL.
• Troubleshoot complex software and real-time performance issues during lab, field, and flight-test activities.
• Support requirements analysis, verification/validation, configuration management, and technical documentation.
• Contribute to cybersecurity hardening and secure communications for GCS applications.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace, defence, safety, quality, and interoperability standards.
• Collaborate with systems engineering, avionics, embedded software, networking, AI/autonomy, hardware, cybersecurity, testing, and flight operations teams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software engineers.
