Job summary

The Fidelis Partnership in Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced underwriting professional to originate, model, administer and underwrite a portfolio of (re)insurance business. You will analyse submission data, policies and records to ensure Fidelis' interests are properly managed and protected.

You will collaborate with risk modeling, pricing tools, and brokers, build client relationships, monitor market developments, ensure data integrity in underwriting systems, and contribute to annual budget

Qualifications

  • Experience in broking or underwriting in the IMEA region, APAC is an added advantage.
  • Established networks with brokers and clients and ability to manage meetings independently.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting marketplace and pricing models.

Job description

The Fidelis Partnership is a leading privately-owned, Bermuda-based Managing General Underwriter, which, through its subsidiaries, is a global underwriter of property, bespoke and specialty insurance and reinsurance products. The Fidelis Partnership is one of the largest Managing General Underwriters globally and its operations also include outwards reinsurance, claims handling, exposure management and portfolio analytics. The Fidelis Partnership also sponsors and incubates specialist MGAs through its Pine Walk platform. The Fidelis Partnership is separately owned and managed from the ownership and management of Fidelis Insurance Group.

The role

The primary focus of this role is originating, modelling, administering, and underwriting a portfolio of (re)insurance business. This includes analysing and maintaining the accuracy of all (re)insurance submission data, policies, and records with the ultimate goal of ensuring that Fidelis’ interests are properly managed and protected.

Key accountabilities
  • Participate in the underwriting process, evaluation, and presentation of submissions, analysing and interpreting exposures, determining coverage and contract language.
  • Assist and work with risk modeling and pricing tools.
  • Originate, leverage, build and maintain broker and client relationships.
  • Monitor market developments and remain current regarding knowledge of all relevant classes of business and legislated and regulatory changes / requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of underwriting data in group underwriting systems.
  • Prepare and issue quotes on an accurate and timely basis.
  • Supervising and/or mentoring junior members of the team.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external underwriting regulations, liaising appropriate with external bodies such as brokers, clients, auditors, and regulators as required.
  • Assist with strategic initiatives needed to promote business growth.
  • Responsibility for building annual budgets, by client and by programme
  • Ensuring compliance with the company’s regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to the operational risk framework for the role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with.
  • Role model for demonstrating highest level standards of integrity and conduct and reflecting Company values.
  • At all times complying with the Code of Conduct of any held professional qualifications
  • Proactively identify and act on opportunities to foster a culture of continual improvement and high performance.
  • Contribute to team efforts prioritising cost controls, productivity, work quality, process improvement and data integrity
  • To ensure that you are fully aware and adhere to the internal policies that related to you, your role or other activities for which you have any level of responsibility.
  • To report any breaches of policy to your manager as required.
  • To escape risk events immediately.
  • To provide input to risk management processes as required.
Skills & experience
  • Experience in a broking or underwriting capacity in the relevant line of business, specifically in the IMEA region, APAC is an added advantage
  • Established networks and strong existing relationships with brokers and clients, and ability to independently manage meetings.
  • Strong understanding of the underwriting marketplace.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a working knowledge of and ability to interpret the outputs of pricing models, and the statistical skills necessary to perform analyses on first principles.
  • Proven negotiator, with demonstrated ability to attract new business and retain clients.
