Job summary

EDGE in Abu Dhabi seeks a senior propulsion R&D engineer to lead the exploration and development of next-generation UAV/RPAS powertrains, including battery-electric, hybrid-electric, and hydrogen systems. The role spans concept design, modelling, and prototyping while collaborating with global teams.

You will drive technology roadmaps, perform trade studies, and coordinate with the Italy facility and external partners to advance concepts toward production readiness.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in propulsion or powertrain R&D, hands-on experience in electric, hybrid-electric, or hydrogen systems.
• Strong first-principles engineering, modelling, and prototyping ability.
• Demonstrated ability to take a technology from concept through feasibility to working demonstrator.
• Experience with UAV/aerospace propulsion is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Technology Roadmap & Scouting: build and maintain Powertech’s new-propulsion roadmap (electric, hybrid, hydrogen).
• Scouting & benchmarking: track technology and suppliers and benchmark approaches.
• Concept Design & Feasibility: develop concepts and feasibility studies for powertrains sized to UAV classes.
• Trade studies: endurace, weight, power-to-weight, thermal management, packaging, cost, safety.
• Modelling & Analysis: model and size powertrains; perform energy, thermal, and integration analysis.
• Prototyping & Testing: design, build, test demonstrators; be hands-on in lab/test cell.
• Partner & Supplier Coordination: work with partners and suppliers; coordinate with Italy facility.
• IP, Documentation & Hand-off: capture IP and prepare technical reports; hand off concepts to Product Manager.
