Job summary

EDGE is seeking a senior propulsion/R&D engineer to lead exploratory and applied research into next-generation UAV propulsion systems at its Abu Dhabi location. You will drive technology roadmaps, perform modelling and prototyping, and collaborate with Powertech Italy and external partners to advance electric, hybrid, and hydrogen powertrains.

Qualifications

• Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, or Mechatronics Engineering (Master’s/PhD desirable).
• 5+ years in propulsion or powertrain R&D, including hands-on work in electric, hybrid-electric, or hydrogen systems.
• Strong first-principles engineering, modelling, and prototyping ability.
• Demonstrated ability to take a technology from concept through feasibility to working demonstrator.

Responsibilities

• Roadmap — build and maintain Powertech’s new-propulsion roadmap (electric, hybrid, hydrogen).
• Scouting & benchmarking — track tech and suppliers and benchmark approaches.
• Concepts — develop concepts and feasibility studies for powertrains sized to UAV classes.
• Trade studies — analyze endurance, weight, power-to-weight, thermal, packaging, cost, safety.
• Powertrain modelling — size powertrains and energy systems; run energy, thermal, integration analyses.
• Prototyping & testing — design, build, and test demonstrators; coordinate test campaigns.
• IP, documentation & hand-off — capture IP and prepare technical reports for product decisions.
