Overview
Wood is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Static) to join our team in Sharjah, UAE. This is a full-time office-based role with business trips.
Role location: Sharjah, United Arab Emirates
Responsibilities
- Execute assigned scopes of work
- Provide discipline expertise to the business
- Support and supervise task delegation to the team
- Use technical knowledge to perform engineering assignments and produce deliverables, including solving complex problems
- Typically serve as a primary discipline engineer or discipline technical authority on projects with small to medium complexity
- Perform engineering tasks representing a significant portion of a larger project; select engineering techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations
- Apply mature professional knowledge in planning and conducting assignments with scope for coordination of difficult tasks
- Apply specific area(s) of expertise in the own discipline
- In consultancy contexts, review and manage complex projects within area of expertise or multidisciplinary in nature
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Participate as a team member in a specific phase of a broad engineering assignment
- Direct preparation of documentation for assigned projects
- Ensure successful completion of the assigned project/phase within budgeted time and cost constraints
- Participate in defining engineering approaches and in planning and scheduling work
- Evaluate problems, organize investigations and establish performance specifications for components, equipment, systems, processes, etc.
- Check engineering calculations and drawings against industry codes and standards; assist with developing less senior technical professionals
- Adhere to relevant discipline procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement
- Participate in audits and incident investigations as required
- Perform complex engineering tasks related to specific units of major projects
- Participate in site visits, project review meetings, design reviews and other workshops
- Organize and actively participate in design reviews

- Modify established guidelines when necessary and apply criteria in new ways
- Function as a technical leader or significant contributor to major complex problems

- Provide technical input and support to proposals as required
Supporting and Supervising task delegation to team
- May supervise a small workgroup or provide guidance in area of specialization
- Assist in managerial tasks: assigning tasks, planning and coordinating engineering work, preparing scopes, schedules and budgets, attending project meetings
- Discuss priorities with senior engineers; agree on resources and implications
- Approve work schedules and advise on resource needs
- Coordinate activities of engineering and design groups on small projects
- May manage one or more small projects with responsibility for cost, schedule, resources and risk
- Provide HSSE leadership and ensure safety requirements are followed
Working Relationships
- Internal: develop productive relationships across projects, offices and regions; promote discipline knowledge sharing
- External: maintain awareness of external stakeholders and build relationships with customers
Level Of Influence & Decision-Making Authority
- Work is assigned within broad guidelines; unusual matters referred to senior authority
- Actions and decisions influence technical, operational and financial results of projects
- No direct reports but serves as a technical resource
- May supervise teams and provide technical guidance to drafters/designers
- Accountable for own targets
- Overall performance is reviewed

Expected
- B.Sc. or equivalent degree in the Engineering discipline from an accredited university
- Minimum of 10+ years relevant experience in major Brownfield oil & gas projects, including at least five (5) years in a similar position
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Specific experience in Oil and Gas projects across their lifecycle in the GCC region, preferred
- Pre-FEED, FEED experience is required
- Detailed Engineering experience is preferred
