Job description

Description

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will assist the Project Manager and the Resident Engineer in administering the operational functions of the day-to-day activities on the project. The Mechanical Engineer will participate and manage in review and approval of all submittals by the contractor with a focus on quality assurance during the engineering phase of construction.

Under the supervision of the project resident engineer or MEP lead, perform routine inspection monitoring tasks to confirm if proper construction supervision is being performed by others. Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Document nonconformance and may participate in determining appropriate resolution.

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Assist the Resident Engineer or MEP Lead in performing the contractual duties onsite.
  • Provide resolution for technical engineering problems within the assigned discipline(s); coordinate application of solutions to ensure progress onsite.
  • Advise the project manager of any technical aspects of the mechanical services that may affect construction progress, quality, and related areas.
  • Review the contractor's construction schedule during the progress of site works.
  • Review construction submittals from project inception to closeout, including shop drawings, installation methods, material proposals, and subcontractor evaluations.
  • Monitor material procurement and deliveries to support construction activities and schedule adherence.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to shop drawings, specifications, schedule, and safety standards.
  • Review and witness testing and commissioning of mechanical systems, and document results.
  • Prepare lists of defects and oversee remedial actions during final snagging.
  • Attend progress and technical meetings, and prepare site instructions as needed.
  • Advise on variation costs claimed by contractors and review Operation and Maintenance manuals.
  • Oversee junior engineers and inspectors to ensure compliance with contractual and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with utility authorities for connections and support quality control procedures.
  • Interpret design drawings and specifications, perform inspections, and support other responsibilities as needed.
Technical skills and experience required:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years postgraduate experience, with at least 7 years on large projects.
  • Regional experience preferred.
  • Authority registration preferred.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate a team of moderate size and complexity.
  • UAE Driving Licence.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
