Senior Instrumentation Engineer - Controls in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy opportunity for an experienced engineering professional with strong expertise in instrumentation design, control systems, FEED, detailed engineering, ESD logic, F and G systems, vendor document review, and oil and gas project execution. This role is suited for a senior I & C engineer who can solve complex technical issues, support multidiscipline coordination, guide junior engineers, and deliver high‑quality engineering outputs for major energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform conceptual design, FEED studies, detailed analysis, and instrumentation and controls engineering design in line with project specifications, design basis, codes, and standards.
- Prepare and review detailed design calculations, engineering reports, technical procedures, design philosophies, specifications, and discipline documentation.
- Develop and review automation system definitions including control philosophy, system architecture, safety drawings, and related technical specifications.
- Prepare and review ESD logic, cause and effect diagrams, F and G logic, instrumentation data sheets, equipment specifications, and spare parts lists.
- Provide instrumentation and controls inputs to P and ID development, markups, vendor information updates, and interdisciplinary design reviews.
- Review instrumentation and controls equipment testing procedures and attend automation and instrumentation FATs when required.
- Support deliverables planning by helping finalize discipline deliverable lists, schedules, budgets, engineering scope, and functional integrity requirements.
- Interface with engineering disciplines, fabrication teams, safety, planning, project management, document control, procurement, vendors, subcontractors, and customers.
- Perform single‑discipline checks and inter‑discipline checks to support clash‑free, accurate, and technically coordinated designs.
- Review vendor and subcontractor submittals for compliance with project specifications and provide clear technical comments where needed.
- Assist procurement teams with requisitions, technical quotation evaluations, bid tabulations, purchase requisitions, and vendor document follow‑up.
- Raise technical queries to clarify missing information, resolve scope uncertainty, and maintain alignment with McDermott procedures and project standards.
- Identify scope changes early and support change notifications, estimates, supporting documentation, and variation order inputs.
- Provide technical support for fabrication queries, including defect identification, rectification requirements, and practical engineering responses.
- Participate in internal, customer, and third‑party technical audits covering engineering deliverables and vendor documentation.
- Assist with HAZOP action closeout and provide instrumentation and controls support for safety, operability, and reliability reviews.
- Capture lessons learned and support continuous improvement through proper documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Guide less experienced engineers on discipline procedures, standards, worksheets, design calculations, software, requisitions, technical queries, and bid evaluations.
- When assigned as lead engineer, manage engineering work on small projects, control work hours, track progress, prepare reports, and coordinate closely with project management.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Master's Degree is preferred.
- 8‑15 years of oil and gas experience with a major contractor or consultant, mainly in detail design.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation and controls design techniques, analysis methods, standards, codes, and engineering guidelines.
- Experience preparing and reviewing control system philosophies, system architecture, ESD logic, F and G logic, cause and effect diagrams, instrument datasheets, and technical specifications.
- Practical understanding of FEED, detailed engineering, vendor coordination, procurement support, fabrication queries, and interdisciplinary design checks.
- Good knowledge of engineering software used for instrumentation and controls design and documentation.
- Registered Professional Engineer status or professional engineering society membership is preferred.
- Ability to supervise, guide, and support instrumentation and controls engineers with technical reviews and work planning.
- Strong command of English, both written and spoken.
- Cost‑conscious, HSE‑focused, quality‑driven, and aware of total quality management requirements.
- Good organizer, motivator, and supervisor with a practical approach to improving work effectiveness.
- Flexible enough to support other departments, construction sites, fabrication yards, McDermott offices, or colleagues during workload peaks when required.
