Job description

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of comprehensive mechanical cost estimates for large‑scale industrial projects ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
• Analyze project specifications, drawings, and scope of work to identify all mechanical system requirements and potential cost drivers.
• Develop detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for mechanical equipment, piping, HVAC, and other related systems.
• Source and evaluate quotations from vendors and subcontractors, negotiating favorable terms and pricing.
• Perform quantity take‑offs for mechanical components, materials, and labor with meticulous attention to detail.
• Apply cost engineering principles to forecast project expenditures, including direct costs, indirect costs, and contingency.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to refine estimates and identify value engineering opportunities.
• Prepare and present detailed estimation reports to senior management and clients, clearly articulating assumptions and methodologies.
• Stay abreast of market trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure estimates remain current and competitive.
• Utilize specialized estimation software and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the bidding process.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7‑10 years of progressive experience in mechanical estimating within the EPC or construction industry.
• Proven track record of successfully estimating complex mechanical systems for diverse industrial sectors (e.g., oil & gas, power, petrochemical).
• Proficiency in estimation software such as Aspen Icarus, H2/Cost, or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including P&IDs, equipment specifications, and construction methods.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to stakeholders.
• P.Eng. or relevant professional certifications are highly advantageous.
• Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
