Position Overview

Senior Engineer – Reservoir Development at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy opportunity for an experienced petroleum engineering professional who can analyze well and reservoir performance, evaluate development options, support production forecasting, and recommend improved recovery strategies. The role applies an integrated approach across geoscience, reservoir engineering, petroleum engineering, drilling, completion, and surface facilities to enhance production, manage uncertainty, and maximize hydrocarbon recovery.

Role Context

The Senior Engineer – Reservoir Development supports field development decisions by converting reservoir data, production behavior, simulation outputs, completion performance, and development studies into practical recommendations. This position contributes to improved recovery planning, well placement optimization, completion strategy, pilot design, appraisal programs, and reservoir surveillance. The role helps reduce technical uncertainty, improve sweep efficiency, protect long‑term asset value, and support reliable production growth across upstream oil and gas operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze well and reservoir performance to identify production trends, recovery gaps, technical risks, and development improvement opportunities.
  • Develop improved production strategies, completion concepts, and workover plans aimed at enhancing production and maximizing recovery.
  • Evaluate existing wells, reservoirs, and development concepts, then recommend alternative improved recovery options.
  • Apply integrated geoscience, reservoir management, drilling, completion, petroleum engineering, and surface facilities input to assess development options.
  • Identify key risks and uncertainties related to well locations, well count, well architecture, completion design, reservoir performance, and recovery processes.
  • Develop mitigation actions that improve technical confidence and support stronger field development decisions.
  • Design pilot wells, appraisal wells, and data acquisition plans required to narrow development options and reduce uncertainty.
  • Prepare value of information justification for pilot implementation, appraisal activity, and data acquisition programs.
  • Design, review, and analyze SCAL and PVT laboratory studies to support reservoir characterization and development planning.
  • Participate in integrated reservoir characterization studies using dynamic and static data.
  • Evaluate and optimize development schemes using fundamental reservoir engineering techniques and asset performance analysis.
  • Integrate production data, reservoir behavior, simulation results, laboratory studies, and surveillance findings to improve sweep efficiency.
  • Supervise or conduct single‑well and sector model studies to evaluate completion designs, recovery processes, and production performance.
  • Develop reservoir surveillance plans to monitor field performance and track the effectiveness of selected development options.
  • Support production forecasting and assess development requirements for different reservoir management scenarios.
  • Provide technical input for section plans, MIS reports, progress updates, management presentations, and development decision papers.
  • Plan, supervise, and coordinate assigned reservoir development activities to meet functional objectives.
  • Train and guide assigned staff on relevant reservoir engineering, field development, and production optimization practices.
  • Provide budget input for department or section activities and support approved work plans.
  • Monitor cost or performance variances and highlight major issues for timely management action.
  • Implement approved policies, standards, systems, processes, and procedures in line with company and international requirements.
  • Support innovation and continuous improvement by identifying tools, methods, and technical workflows that improve operational efficiency.
  • Comply with HSE policies, sustainability guidelines, legal regulations, and ADNOC Code of Practices during all technical and site‑related activities.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in field development activities, reservoir simulation studies, and new technology assessment for production enhancement.
  • Strong knowledge of reservoir engineering, petroleum engineering, well performance analysis, production forecasting, and improved recovery options.
  • Experience evaluating development concepts, workover plans, completion strategies, pilot wells, appraisal wells, and data acquisition programs.
  • Practical understanding of geoscience integration, reservoir management, drilling and completion interfaces, and surface facilities considerations.
  • Ability to analyze reservoir risks, uncertainties, production constraints, and recovery improvement opportunities.
  • Experience with SCAL and PVT laboratory studies and their use in reservoir characterization and development planning.
  • Strong capability in single‑well studies, sector model studies, reservoir surveillance, and performance evaluation of recovery processes.
  • Good understanding of dynamic and static reservoir data integration, sweep efficiency optimization, and field development planning.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, progress updates, management inputs, and decision‑support recommendations.
  • Strong analytical thinking, technical problem solving, planning, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with internal technical teams, consultants, third‑party service providers, and government agencies when required.
