Job description

Senior Data Engineer / Consultant – GCP, BigQuery & SQL

Location: Dubai, UAE – 5 days onsite per week

Contract: Initial 12 months

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Consultant to join a leading organisation in Dubai, working closely with its internal data and marketing technology teams.

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role requiring strong expertise in BigQuery, complex SQL, ETL pipelines and data dependency analysis. You will assess the impact of changes across existing data pipelines, plan and implement remediation, and ensure downstream data processes continue to operate accurately.

The successful candidate will be confident working independently with minimal oversight, coordinating with business and technical stakeholders and taking ownership of delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed impact analysis across data pipelines, tracing upstream and downstream dependencies to identify affected datasets, transformations and consuming systems.


• Develop, troubleshoot and optimise complex SQL queries in Google BigQuery.


• Analyse existing source system extraction, ETL/ELT flows and data architecture, clearly explaining how data moves through the environment.


• Assess and implement schema migrations and data structure changes, managing their impact on dependent pipelines and downstream outputs.


• Design and execute regression testing, validating data accuracy and confirming that changes do not disrupt existing functionality.


• Estimate remediation effort and develop prioritised, timeline-based delivery plans, highlighting dependencies, risks and implementation requirements.


• Work closely with data, marketing technology and business teams to clarify requirements, resolve issues and deliver changes.


• Produce and maintain clear technical documentation covering data flows, dependencies, change impacts, remediation actions and test results.


• Use version control to manage code changes and support controlled delivery.


• Proven hands‑on data engineering experience delivering and supporting production data pipelines.


• Strong practical experience with Google BigQuery.


• Expert‑level SQL, including complex joins, transformations, aggregations and troubleshooting.


• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT architecture, source system extraction and end-to-end data flows.


• Demonstrable experience conducting pipeline impact analysis and dependency tracing.


• Practical experience implementing schema migrations or changes to data structures.


• Experience planning and executing regression testing and data validation.


• Ability to estimate remediation effort and translate findings into a realistic, prioritised delivery plan.


• Strong technical documentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain architecture, technical decisions and delivery risks clearly.


• Experience using version control, preferably Google Cloud Source Repository.


• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and coordinate effectively across business and technical teams.


• Experience working with marketing or customer data.


• Understanding of customer segmentation, CRM data and customer lifecycle stages.


• Experience collaborating with marketing technology teams.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate personal ownership of production data engineering work and discuss concrete examples of pipeline architecture, complex SQL, dependency analysis and schema changes. Candidates should be able to explain their approach to testing, remediation and delivery in detail.

Applicants must be available to work onsite in Dubai five days per week for an initial 12-month contract.
