Job summary

Desertcart in Dubai is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to help price, list, and update its catalogue across sales channels. You’ll work on pricing logic, data pipelines, and marketplace integrations with a focus on Ruby on Rails and large-scale data processing.

You will build and maintain background jobs, ensure data accuracy, and collaborate with commercial teams to translate business rules into reliable code. This role is based in our Dubai office.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building production backend systems.
• At least 4+ years in Ruby on Rails.
• Strong PostgreSQL skills and large-table performance tuning.
• Experience running background jobs at scale (e.g., Sidekiq).
• Experience integrating with external APIs with rate limits or unreliability.
• Writing tests with RSpec as part of daily work.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain pricing and repricing logic.
• Integrate with marketplace and third-party APIs.
• Build and run background workers and data pipelines at large scale.
• Ensure systems are accurate, reliable and diagnosable.
• Collaborate with commercial and operations teams to translate business rules into code.
