Job summary

First Orion is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to own core microservices across our platform, including call treatment orchestration, brand data, analytics, and billing. This hands-on role uses a hexagonal, event-driven architecture and requires collaboration with colleagues across regions.

You will build scalable, reliable Java/Spring Boot services, work with PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka, and contribute to design decisions while supporting production systems in a distributed environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend or software engineering experience.
• Proficient in Java 21 and Spring Boot.
• Experience with Gradle using Kotlin DSL.
• Strong PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka knowledge.
• Understanding microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Experience designing, building, testing, and supporting production services.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a distributed, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Build, enhance, and own core microservices across the First Orion platform.
• Develop services for call treatment orchestration, brand data, analytics, and billing.
• Design and implement hexagonal and event-driven architecture patterns.
• Build scalable, reliable backend services with Java and Spring Boot.
• Work with relational databases, caching, and event-streaming platforms.
• Contribute to technical design decisions and improve reliability.
• Troubleshoot issues and support services through the lifecycle.
• Collaborate with distributed engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
