Job summary

GEMS Education in the United Arab Emirates is seeking a Laboratory Technician to manage science laboratories, ensure equipment, tools, chemicals and materials are stocked and in good condition, and support science teachers.

You will set up experiments, maintain safety standards, monitor stock, prepare solutions, manage PPE inventory, and help with practical demonstrations.

You will keep records, perform risk assessments, ensure SDS are up to date, and assist students during lab investigations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year’s experience in a similar laboratory environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students, and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Support the work of science teachers by managing the laboratories and stocking equipment, tools, chemicals, and materials.
• Help maintain compliance with Health and Safety in the science laboratories.
• Set up experiments and demonstrations, including preparing required solutions, instruments, and materials.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and receiving chemicals and equipment.
• Prepare chemicals and solutions of required concentrations.
• Ensure PPE is available for students and that waste is disposed of safely.
• Maintain cleanliness and conduct regular inventory of chemicals and equipment.
• Assist IB students with their IA by preparing equipment and materials.
• Keep records relevant to running the science lab (SDS, risk assessments, hazardous substances register, manuals, waste disposals).
• Other duties as needed by department.
