Job summary

GEMS Education is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to support Science teachers in managing laboratories, stock, and safety procedures. You will prepare solutions, assist with experiments, and ensure PPE and compliance across practical sessions.

Ideal candidates will have at least one year of experience in a similar environment, with strong attention to detail and teamwork. The role involves active participation in safety initiatives and collaboration with IB projects.

Qualifications

• Experience in managing science laboratories.
• Attention to detail and ability to work with staff and students.
• Safety-minded and compliant with lab procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage science laboratories and ensure equipment, tools, chemicals and materials are stocked and in working condition.
• Maintain Health & Safety compliance in science labs.
• Set up experiments and demonstrations with required solutions and materials.
• Monitor stock levels and assist ordering and receiving chemicals and consumables.
• Prepare chemicals and solutions with required concentrations.
• Ensure adequate PPE for students for lab experiments.
• Keep labs clean and dispose of chemical waste safely.
• Regularly inventory chemicals and equipment.
• Serve on the school Health & Safety committee.
• Store chemicals properly and keep SDS updated.
• Perform risk assessments for handling hazardous substances.
• Assist IB students with IA by preparing equipment and materials.
• Assist students in lab investigations as needed.
• Maintain records of safety documents, risk assessments, waste disposal, etc.
• Perform other duties as needed by department.
