Laboratory Technician – Science (Dubai, UAE)

Laboratory Technician – Science in Dubai is a practical primary‑secondary education opportunity for an organized science laboratory professional who can support teachers and students with laboratory preparation, academic resources, practical experiments, equipment handling, and smooth operational support within an IB school environment. The role requires strong laboratory experience, excellent English communication skills, and the ability to work closely with science teachers in a busy secondary school department.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratory equipment, materials, chemicals, and practical resources for lessons and demonstrations.
• Support science teachers and students during practical classroom activities, experiments, and laboratory‑based learning.
• Maintain organised preparation rooms, laboratory spaces, storage areas, and science resources to support daily teaching needs.
• Check laboratory equipment before and after practical lessons to ensure items are safe, clean, functional, and properly stored.
• Assist with setting up and clearing practical activities in line with lesson plans and department requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of laboratory resources, stock levels, consumables, equipment usage, and replenishment needs.
• Support safe handling, labelling, storage, and disposal of science materials according to school procedures and safety expectations.
• Coordinate with the Director of Learning for Science and teaching staff to understand upcoming practical lesson requirements.
• Help students follow laboratory routines, safe working habits, and responsible use of science equipment during supervised activities.
• Report damaged equipment, missing resources, safety concerns, or maintenance requirements to the appropriate staff member.
• Assist with ordering, receiving, organising, and tracking science department supplies and consumables.
• Manage peaks of demand during assessment periods, practical projects, science events, and busy curriculum cycles.
• Contribute to a collaborative science department by supporting teachers, technicians, and school staff with practical operational needs.
• Follow GEMS Education policies, safeguarding standards, laboratory safety procedures, and professional codes of conduct at all times.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor's degree or minimum higher education qualification.
• At least 3 years of classroom or laboratory experience in Dubai.
• Previous experience supporting a school science department is highly desirable.
• Good understanding of laboratory routines, equipment handling, practical lesson preparation, and science resource organisation.
• English speaker with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and manage busy periods with accuracy, calmness, and attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal skills for working with teachers, students, department leaders, and school support teams.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to maintain clean, structured, and safe laboratory spaces.
• Reliable, proactive, safety‑conscious, and able to follow instructions carefully.
• Comfortable working as part of a team within classrooms and preparation areas.
• Commitment to student safety, safeguarding, and professional behaviour in a school environment.
• A UK‑enhanced DBS or equivalent police clearance is required for appointment.
