Job Purpose

The Reservoir Simulation Engineer will generate and update black oil and compositional reservoir simulation models to support field development planning and short- and long-term production profiles. The position conducts simulation sensitivities, prioritizes development schemes using relevant technical practices, uncertainty and risk assessment and economics, and translates reservoir simulation results into practical operational guidelines.

Reservoir Modeling and Simulation

• Build sizable full-field reservoir simulation models for field development and reservoir management studies.
• Perform history matching and use calibrated models to generate reservoir performance predictions.
• Conduct quality and consistency checks on simulation models and history-match scenarios against geological model characteristics.
• Diagnose model convergence and run-time problems and implement appropriate corrective actions.
• Update and recalibrate simulation models using available production, injection and reservoir information.
• Apply numerical reservoir simulation techniques using Eclipse and Intersect.

Reservoir Characterization and Fluid Modeling

• Coordinate with Geoscientists on reservoir characterization and upscaling.
• Develop reservoir fluid characterization and Equation of State models.
• Calibrate fluid models for reservoir simulation requirements.
• Convert simple black oil models into compositional simulation models.
• Apply multiphase reservoir flow principles, effective permeability concepts and relative permeability correlations.
• Integrate pressure and production test results into reservoir simulation and reservoir management decisions.

Field Development Optimization

• Conduct simulation studies to optimize field development plans.
• Evaluate well spacing, infill wells, advanced wells and pilot development scenarios.
• Perform model sensitivities and compare alternative development schemes.
• Apply uncertainty and risk assessment in the evaluation of development options.
• Incorporate economic considerations when prioritizing development schemes.
• Use simulation models to identify actions required to maximize recovery and support current production quotas.

IOR and EOR Studies

• Coordinate with the Technical Center in designing Improved Oil Recovery and Enhanced Oil Recovery methods.
• Evaluate water injection and immiscible and miscible gas injection approaches.
• Support assessment of surfactant and polymer injection methods.
• Evaluate recovery enhancement and reservoir pressure maintenance options through simulation studies.

Reserves and Reservoir Studies

• Apply probabilistic and deterministic methods for reserves estimation.
• Use material balance, decline curve analysis and simulation model sensitivities in reservoir evaluations.
• Design, follow up, quality-check and analyze reservoir studies.
• Support studies covering RCA, SCAL and PVT requirements.
• Translate reservoir study findings into recommendations for field development and reservoir management.

Reservoir Surveillance and Data Management

• Contribute to reservoir monitoring and data-gathering programs.
• Support cost-effective acquisition of reservoir information required for improved reservoir management.
• Identify data requirements that can help reduce reservoir uncertainty.
• Participate in periodic database updates and validation.
• Incorporate monthly production and injection data and relevant descriptions for assessment of well, reservoir and field performance.
• Use updated information to support simulation model recalibration.

Contractor and Study Coordination

• Liaise with contractors carrying out reservoir studies.
• Analyze and review contractor findings and study recommendations.
• Follow up on technical actions arising from reservoir studies.
• Coordinate relevant technical information required for reservoir simulation and field development work.

Supervision and Staff Development

• Plan, supervise and coordinate activities within the assigned area to achieve functional objectives.
• Train and develop assigned personnel in relevant technical skills.
• Support staff proficiency and achievement of Section objectives.

Budget and Performance Management

• Provide input for preparation of Department and Section budgets.
• Assist with implementation of approved budgets and work plans.
• Investigate and highlight significant variances to support performance and cost control.

• Implement approved policies, processes, systems, standards and procedures.

Reporting

• Provide input for Section Management Information System reports.

Minimum Qualification

• Bachelor 's Degree in Reservoir Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.

Minimum Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• 6-8 years of reservoir engineering experience, including oil and gas field development management and full-field simulation studies.
• Reservoir and Production Operations knowledge.
• Knowledge of analytical reservoir characterization and Material Balance.
• Numerical reservoir simulation experience using Eclipse and Intersect.
• Knowledge of Pressure Transient Analysis and well performance.
