Role Context

The Reservoir Engineer - Simulation and Optimization supports the technical understanding and management of producing oil and gas reservoirs through numerical simulation, reservoir characterization, fluid modelling, and production analysis. The position contributes to full-field studies and development decisions by improving model reliability, testing alternative production strategies, and identifying opportunities to enhance recovery. Working with geoscience, production, petroleum engineering, and subsurface teams, the engineer helps integrate geological, pressure, fluid, and production information into robust reservoir models. The resulting analysis supports well planning, infill opportunities, reserves forecasting, waterflood performance, enhanced oil recovery screening, and broader field development strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, update, and run numerical reservoir simulation models for oil and gas fields.
• Perform basic history matching to align model behaviour with observed production, pressure, and reservoir performance.
• Evaluate development and production scenarios using simulation results to support technical and operational decisions.
• Integrate geological, petrophysical, production, pressure, and fluid data into reservoir models in coordination with geoscience teams.
• Support reservoir characterization activities to improve understanding of reservoir properties, connectivity, and dynamic behaviour.
• Assist with fluid modelling and equation of state calibration under appropriate technical supervision.
• Monitor simulation model performance and investigate convergence, data, initialization, or numerical issues affecting study quality.
• Support troubleshooting of simulation runs and make appropriate adjustments to improve model stability and reliability.
• Contribute to reservoir management studies covering depletion strategies, pressure maintenance, water injection, waterflooding, and recovery optimization.
• Participate in enhanced oil recovery screening and evaluation of suitable reservoir development options.
• Apply accepted reservoir engineering methods to reserves estimation and production forecasting.
• Support field development planning by analysing well performance, production potential, depletion behaviour, and infill drilling opportunities.
• Incorporate updated production and pressure information into simulation models to improve forecasting accuracy.
• Assist with quality control of reservoir engineering datasets and technical studies, including PVT, SCAL, and RCA information.
• Apply multiphase flow principles when evaluating reservoir performance, well behaviour, and fluid movement.
• Use material balance methods to support reservoir characterization and independent evaluation of reservoir performance.
• Conduct pressure transient and well performance analysis where required to strengthen reservoir understanding.
• Prepare technical findings, simulation results, forecasts, and recommendations for reservoir studies and multidisciplinary reviews.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor 's degree in Reservoir Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline.
• 6-8 years of relevant reservoir engineering experience within oil and gas field development or producing asset environments.
• Practical experience with full-field reservoir simulation studies and the use of industry-standard numerical modelling software.
• Strong working knowledge of reservoir and production operations.
• Familiarity with analytical reservoir characterization methods, including material balance techniques.
• Experience developing, running, reviewing, or maintaining numerical reservoir simulation models.
• Working knowledge of pressure transient analysis, well performance evaluation, and production forecasting.
• Understanding of PVT behaviour and fluid modelling principles relevant to reservoir simulation.
• Ability to integrate geological, production, pressure, and reservoir data into technically consistent models.
• Strong analytical ability with the capability to convert complex subsurface information into practical engineering recommendations.
