Confidential Company is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Technician to join the maintenance team for bakery operations. The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining refrigeration systems to ensure smooth production with minimal downtime.

You will handle Freon systems, blast freezers, and cold rooms, while following HACCP and safety guidelines to protect product quality and staff safety.

Job description

• Install, maintain, and repair refrigeration and cooling systems used in bakery operations, including chillers, freezers, cold rooms, proofers, and air-conditioning units.
• Ensure all temperature-controlled systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with food safety and environmental standards to maintain product quality and minimize downtime.
• Perform preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of all refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment including walk-in chillers and freezers, blast freezer and chillers, cold rooms, temperature- and humidity-controlled proofers, and AC systems in admin and entire facility.
• Diagnose and repair faults in compressors, condensers, evaporators, thermostats, expansion valves, and refrigerant piping.
• Check and adjust refrigerant levels, pressures, and temperatures according to system design.
• Identify leaks and perform refrigerant recovery, recycling, and charging in compliance with environmental regulations.
• Ensure all systems operate within required temperature and humidity parameters to support consistent dough processing and product quality.
• Handle tasks assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
• Assist in the installation, relocation, or commissioning of new refrigeration systems and temperature-controlled equipment.
• Connect electrical controls, sensors, and thermostats according to technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Calibrate temperature sensors, pressure controls, and safety devices to ensure precise operation.
• Verify insulation, drainage, and airflow for efficient performance.
• Follow and execute the preventive maintenance schedule for all refrigeration systems.
• Regularly monitor and record readings of temperature, suction/discharge pressure, voltage, current, and refrigerant levels.
• Inspect belts, fans, motors, and electrical controls for wear or damage.
• Clean condenser and evaporator coils to maintain optimal heat transfer and efficiency.
• Report potential issues early to prevent breakdowns and production interruptions.
• Handle refrigerants safely and in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Follow lockout/tagout and permit-to-work procedures before performing maintenance.
• Ensure all refrigeration equipment and maintenance practices comply with food safety (HACCP, GMP) and occupational health standards.
• Maintain tools and work areas clean to avoid contamination in food production zones.
• Keep up-to-date records of refrigerant use and system maintenance for audit purposes.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control-related problems using gauges, multimeters, and diagnostic software.
• Adjust thermostats, defrost timers, and control settings for optimal temperature and energy efficiency.
• Recommend system upgrades or modifications to improve performance and reduce energy consumption.
• Support the automation and monitoring of temperature control systems in production and storage areas.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, spare parts used, and repairs performed.
• Update equipment history records, refrigerant tracking sheets, and service reports.
• Notify supervisors about recurring issues, equipment condition, and spare parts requirements.
• Adhere to all Policies and procedure set by the Management of the Company.
• Maintain effective communication systems to maximize operational efficiency and satisfaction between all departments.
• Demonstrate awareness of OH&S policies and procedures ensuring safe conduct and adherence to occupational, health and safety legislation, policies and procedures.
• Be familiar with property safety, first aid and fire and emergency procedures and operate equipment safely and sensibly.
• Initiate action to correct hazardous situations and notify supervisors of potential dangers.
