Role Context
The RAM Specialist provides quantitative engineering insight into how infrastructure systems and critical assets are expected to perform throughout their operational lives. The position converts equipment characteristics, failure data, maintenance assumptions, and system architecture into measurable reliability, availability, and maintainability outcomes. This analysis supports better design decisions, reduces operational risk, strengthens asset integrity, and enables maintenance and investment strategies to be based on lifecycle performance rather than short‑term considerations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive Reliability, Availability and Maintainability studies for infrastructure systems, equipment, and operational assets.
- Develop quantitative reliability models to evaluate system performance against defined availability and lifecycle targets.
- Build and maintain Reliability Block Diagrams to represent system configurations, dependencies, redundancy, and failure behavior.
- Perform Fault Tree Analysis to identify combinations of failures that could affect system functionality or operational performance.
- Support Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis workshops and technical assessments.
- Apply statistical methods to equipment failure data and identify recurring trends, degradation patterns, and reliability concerns.
- Perform reliability simulations and sensitivity assessments to evaluate alternative system configurations and operating scenarios.
- Use Weibull analysis and other reliability statistics to evaluate failure characteristics and asset behavior.
- Translate RAM findings into practical recommendations for engineering design and system optimization.
- Provide technical input into Reliability Centered Maintenance strategies and preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Evaluate maintenance requirements with consideration for accessibility, repair duration, system criticality, and operational impact.
- Support spare parts optimization using reliability information, failure frequencies, and maintenance demand assumptions.
- Contribute to lifecycle cost analysis by assessing the relationship between reliability, maintenance, downtime, and long‑term asset expenditure.
- Develop asset performance forecasts to support engineering, operations, and maintenance decision‑making.
- Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to improve system resilience, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
- Review reliability assumptions, source data, calculations, and model outputs for technical consistency.
- Prepare structured RAM reports, technical studies, calculations, and presentations for project stakeholders.
- Communicate complex reliability findings in a form that supports practical engineering and asset management decisions.
- Apply relevant industry standards, reliability methodologies and accepted engineering practices throughout assigned studies.
- Maintain traceable analytical records covering assumptions, input data, model configurations, calculations and conclusions.
Ideal Profile
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in RAM analysis, reliability engineering or asset performance management.
- Bachelor ’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience performing quantitative reliability modeling and statistical analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of FMEA, FMECA, FTA, RBD, Weibull analysis and reliability statistics.
- Practical experience with RAM modeling software such as Isograph, ReliaSoft, or equivalent specialist applications.
- Understanding of Reliability Centered Maintenance and preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies.
- Knowledge of lifecycle cost analysis and asset management principles.
- Experience analyzing equipment failure information and translating findings into performance improvement measures.
- Ability to develop defensible engineering assumptions where reliability data is incomplete or requires interpretation.
- Experience within transportation, infrastructure, oil and gas, power generation or another asset-intensive environment is preferred.
- Strong analytical reasoning with the ability to explain quantitative findings to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Professional certification such as CMRP, CRE or an equivalent reliability credential is advantageous.
