Job summary

RINA is recruiting a Railway System Engineer (Railway T&C Engineer) to join its Al Ain office within the Electronics and System Engineering Division. The role focuses on integrating, verifying, and optimizing railway systems across rolling stock, signaling, tracks, and power and communication networks.

Responsibilities include acting as Testing & Commissioning Engineer, leading SIT, FAT, SAT activities, and coordinating with subsystem teams to ensure final validation of the integrated railway

Qualifications

RINA is currently recruiting for a Railway System Engineer (Railway T&C Engineer) to join its office in Al Ain within the Electronics and System Engineering Division.

Mission

The Railway System Engineer is responsible for integrating, verifying and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role involves system-level thinking, covering rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems.

The successful candidate will join the RINA team and will act as Testing & Commissioning Engineer for the project of appointment, collaborating with the System Engineering and System Assurance Engineers, referring to the T&C Manager and interfacing with the T&C Engineers of the subsystems involved in the development and construction of the whole railway system. Participating to Site Acceptance Test campaign of the subsystems, executing the Site Integration and Performance Tests, ensuring the successful T&C activities finalization and the final validation of the integrated railway system.

Key Accountabilities
  • Verification & Validation
  • Ensuring railway systems adhere to the performance and characteristics required by the project requirements, standards, laws, ...
  • Managing all the V&V activities, defining the relevant plans and monitoring the activities execution.
  • Monitoring the execution of the FAI, FAT, SAT and other V&V activities relevant to the subsystems.
  • Managing and executing the on site integration T&C activities (SIT, SPT, trial run, ...)
  • System Design & Architecture
  • Defining and managing railway system requirements, system architecture, interaction between subsystems (rolling stock, signaling, tracks, power supply).
  • Selecting appropriate technologies and configurations for new rail projects.
  • Manage the interface development by the subsystems and coordinating the process of verification and validation of all interfaces during the life cycle of the project up to interface final successful closure
  • System Integration
  • Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems, interfaces between rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure.
  • Validating system compatibility across national and international requirements and standards (e.g., EN, NFPA, ...).
  • Performance Optimization
  • Enhancing railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption, and operational reliability.
  • Lifecycle Management
  • Managing railway system upgrades and modernization projects.
  • Supporting asset management and maintenance planning to maximize system longevity.
  • Digitalization & Smart Rail Technologies
  • Implementing IoT, AI, and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation.
  • Working with Digital Twin, Remote Monitoring, and Smart Signaling technologies.
Education

Bachelor's Degree

Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in T&C for railway systems
  • Knowledge and experience in integration/system engineering for railway systems
  • Experience in focusing on sustainability in railway systems and infrastructure design, construction, and operation.
  • Rolling Stock (Metro, EMUs, DMUs, LRVs)
  • Signaling Systems (ETCS, CBTC, PTC, Interlocking)
  • Electrification (25kV AC, 750V DC, 3kV DC systems)
  • Track Infrastructure (Standard gauge, High-Speed Rail, Light Rail, Metro)
  • Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure.
  • Managing mixed traffic operations (High-speed, freight, commuter trains).
  • CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety)
  • ETCS/ERTMS (European Train Control System)
  • IEC 62290 (Urban Rail Control Systems)
  • UIC, AAR, and FRA Regulations (for different railway regions)
  • Systems Engineering: DOORS, Enterprise Architect
  • Failure & Safety Analysis: ReliaSoft, FMECA, FTA Tools
  • Electrical & Mechanical Design: MATLAB, Simulink, CATIA
Project Management & Lifecycle Management
  • Working with V-Model, Agile, or Waterfall methodologies.
  • Managing large-scale railway system deployment projects.
