Job summary

GECO M&E LTD in the United Arab Emirates is seeking a Substation Project Engineer to plan, execute, and monitor substation projects (AIS/GIS) from design through commissioning, ensuring technical compliance, quality, safety, and timely delivery.

You will manage end-to-end execution for 132 kV and above, coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams, monitor schedules and budgets, and oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of transformers, switchgear, relays, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required.
• 5–10 years of experience in electrical substation projects.
• Hands-on experience in 33/66/132/220/400 kV substations.
• Experience with 132 kV GIS/AIS, 11 kV switchgear and power transformers.
• HV/MV cable laying and termination.
• Protection & control panels, SCADA/SCMS and DC systems.
• Earthing, lightning protection and capacitor bank installation.
• Experience in installation, testing, commissioning and site coordination.
• Ability to read SLD, schematic, wiring and cable schedule drawings.
• Good coordination with clients, consultants, contractors and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end execution of substation projects (132KV and above), including design coordination, site execution, testing, and commissioning
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams for technical clarifications and approvals
• Prepare and monitor project schedules, resource plans, and budgets; track progress against milestones
• Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of substation equipment such as power/distribution transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, isolators, CTs/PTs, relays, and control & protection panels
• Ensure compliance with relevant statutory, safety, and quality standards (IE Rules, IEC/IS standards, etc.)
• Liaise with statutory authorities for approvals and inspections as required
• Troubleshoot technical issues during execution and commissioning phases
• Prepare project documentation, progress reports, and as-built drawings
• Manage site teams, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards
