Client of Teach East is seeking a Homeroom Teacher in Abu Dhabi to deliver engaging lessons, oversee a homeroom class, and support students' academic, social and pastoral development.

You will differentiate instruction for diverse learners, assess progress, maintain an inclusive classroom, and collaborate with staff to support school initiatives and safeguarding. A PGCE/B.Ed. and QTS are preferred, with experience in international curricula.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Primary Education, or a relevant subject.
  • Postgraduate teacher training (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed.) or equivalent preferred.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised by international schools.
  • Experience with pastoral care, attendance, wellbeing, behaviour management.
  • Strong knowledge of primary curricula (UK National Curriculum, IB PYP, Cambridge).
  • Excellent classroom management and communication; collaborative mindset.
  • Willingness to undergo enhanced background checks as part of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging age-appropriate lessons across multiple subjects for a homeroom class.
  • Be the primary contact for students in your homeroom, supporting academic, social and pastoral development.
  • Differentiate teaching for learners with diverse abilities and language backgrounds.
  • Assess and report pupil progress using formative and summative methods.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment promoting wellbeing and learning.
  • Handle daily homeroom routines, registrations, announcements, and pastoral check-ins.
  • Communicate with parents about progress, behaviour, attendance and needs; attend meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to curriculum development and school initiatives.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and support annual reviews and referrals when needed.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies; identify and report concerns.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and school events to support the community.

Homeroom Teacher

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging age-appropriate lessons across multiple subjects e g English Maths Science Social Studies for a designated homeroom class in line with the school curriculum and learning objectives
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students in your homeroom overseeing their academic social and pastoral development throughout the school year
  • Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of learners with diverse abilities learning styles and language backgrounds including EAL students
  • Assess record and report pupil progress regularly using formative and summative assessment strategies to inform planning and target setting
  • Create and maintain a positive inclusive and well-managed classroom environment that supports pupil well-being engagement and learning
  • Conduct daily homeroom routines e g registration announcements pastoral check-ins and foster a strong sense of classroom community and belonging
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress behaviour attendance and pastoral needs and participate in parent-teacher meetings as required
  • Collaborate with colleagues support staff subject specialists and school leaders to contribute to curriculum development cross-curricular links and whole-school initiatives
  • Maintain accurate records prepare report cards and contribute to annual reviews transition documentation and student referrals when necessary
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures promoting pupils safety and welfare at all times including identifying and reporting any concerns
  • Participate in extra-curricular activities school events assemblies and professional development to support the broader school community
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Primary Education, or a relevant subject; postgraduate teacher training (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed.) or equivalent is preferred. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent professional teaching qualification recognised by international schools (e.g., US state certification, Australian teaching registration, etc.). Proven classroom experience as a primary or homeroom teacher, preferably in international, British-curriculum, or multicultural settings. Strong knowledge of primary curricula (e.g., UK National Curriculum, IB Primary Years Programme, Cambridge Primary, or similar) and assessment practices. Experience with pastoral care, including monitoring attendance, well-being, behaviour management, and supporting students with additional needs. Excellent classroom management skills, clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues. Commitment to continuous professional development and collaborative working within a school team. Enhanced DBS check or equivalent background check is required (or willingness to undergo relevant checks as part of employment processes).
