Job description

The Practical Nurse (PN) is responsible for providing safe, compassionate, and patient‑centered nursing care under the supervision of Registered Nurses and physicians. The PN supports the delivery of high‑quality care by monitoring patients’ physical and emotional well‑being, administering prescribed medications and treatments within the scope of practice, implementing individualized care plans, promoting a safe and therapeutic environment, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes while adhering to hospital policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct nursing care in accordance with individualized care plans and clinical protocols.
  • Monitor and document patients’ physical condition, emotional well‑being, behavior, and response to treatment promptly reporting significant changes.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments safely and accurately within the authorized scope of practice.
  • Observe patients for changes in condition and communicate concerns promptly to the supervising Registered Nurse or physician.
  • Build therapeutic relationships with patients through compassionate care, active listening, and effective communication.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and maintaining daily routines.
  • Support patients in achieving individualized care goals through encouragement, education, and ongoing assistance.
  • Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and patient orientation.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation using the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Collaborate effectively with Registered Nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and assist in implementing safety and crisis management procedures when required.
  • Maintain patient dignity, confidentiality, and professional ethical standards at all times.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Practical Nursing or an equivalent recognized nursing qualification.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of nursing experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Additional clinical certifications are considered an advantage.
  • Strong patient assessment and observation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Compassionate, patient‑focused, and professional approach to care.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in challenging situations.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
