Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients working within evidence‑based guidelines and unit‑specific competencies under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Assess and implement nursing care for patients ensuring a patient‑centred approach to care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Assist in the activities of daily living for patients in accordance with the patient care plan (e.g., distribution of patient meals and assisting patients with hygiene needs).
  • Demonstrate service excellence and act as a patient advocate to support the patient’s dignity and rights at all times.
  • Understand basic indications for medications, recognise side effects, and report to the Registered Nurse appropriately.
  • Ensure the Registered Nurse is informed of observations and care provided for patients, and document appropriately.
  • Report any significant changes in the patient’s condition to a Registered Nurse immediately.
  • Respond to all levels of emergencies according to the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in and compliance with the completion of documentation in an appropriate timeframe according to BE policies and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate ability to navigate Malaffi accurately and efficiently within scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in the management of effective and efficient patient‑centred care in a professional manner.
  • Promote and support a collaborative practice model.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly with patients, carers and all healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute effectively to the support of new staff, nursing students and other staff.
  • Understand the process of complaint management, take action to resolve where possible and report as per organisational policy.
  • Assist registered nurses and clerical staff in administrative duties as required.
  • Ensure provision of a clean and safe working environment that minimizes risks to patients and family.
  • Identify risk in the environment, escalates and maintains records of reporting if appropriate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with isolation precautions and hand hygiene.
  • Comply with all annual mandatory health and safety training as per BE policy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of international and HAAD patient safety goals.
  • Participate, contribute and implement quality assurance standards as per local guidelines.
  • Assess patient and family education needs, plan for and provide and evaluate outcome.
  • Assist to provide a suitable environment that supports educational needs.
  • Ensure patient and family are provided with comprehensive written information and resources to meet their health‑care needs.
  • Engage in health promotion activities in the healthcare organization and community.
