Job summary

Udrive is seeking a highly experienced Platform DevOps Engineer to own the reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence of our backend platform in Dubai.

You will manage AWS ECS, EC2, RDS, VPC, and related services, design resilient deployments, build observability and DR strategies, and collaborate with backend, mobile and product teams to deliver scalable systems powering hundreds of thousands of users and vehicles.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering.
• Strong Linux administration experience and scripting.
• Experience with AWS and PostgreSQL administration.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and maintain highly available cloud infrastructure.
• Manage AWS environments including ECS, EC2, RDS, VPC, CloudFront, Route53, IAM, WAF, S3, Secrets Manager and related services.
• Continuously optimize infrastructure performance and cost.

We're looking for a highly experienced Platform DevOps Engineer who will own the reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence of our backend platform.

This is not a traditional DevOps role. You will be responsible for the entire backend operational environment, ensuring that our infrastructure, applications, databases, deployments, and production systems operate reliably 24/7.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and maintain highly available cloud infrastructure.
• Manage AWS environments including ECS, EC2, RDS, VPC, CloudFront, Route53, IAM, WAF, S3, Secrets Manager and related services.
• Continuously optimize infrastructure performance and cost.
• Build disaster recovery and backup strategies.
• Design scalable environments capable of handling rapid business growth.

CI/CD Release Engineering

• Build and maintain deployment pipelines.
• Automate build, testing and deployment processes.
• Implement blue/green and rolling deployments.
• Manage release strategies across staging and production.
• Ensure zero or minimal downtime during deployments.
• Improve deployment frequency while maintaining platform stability.

Backend Platform Ownership

• Own the production backend environment.
• Monitor application health and proactively resolve production issues.
• Manage application servers, reverse proxies, load balancers and container orchestration.
• Ensure backend services remain performant and highly available.
• Assist developers in troubleshooting production issues.
• Maintain service uptime SLAs.

Monitoring Observability

• Build centralized monitoring and alerting.
• Manage dashboards using Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch or equivalent platforms.
• Implement centralized logging.
• Build application performance monitoring.
• Conduct root cause analysis following production incidents.
• Continuously improve observability across all services.

Database Administration

• Manage PostgreSQL databases.
• Optimize database performance.
• Monitor replication, backups and recovery.
• Plan upgrades and maintenance.
• Ensure data integrity and security.
• Assist in query optimization when required.

Security Compliance

• Implement infrastructure security best practices.
• Manage IAM roles and permissions.
• Maintain SSL certificates and secrets.
• Perform vulnerability assessments.
• Ensure systems follow security and compliance standards.
• Conduct regular patching and updates.

Networking

• Configure and maintain VPC networking.
• Manage VPNs, firewalls, NAT gateways and security groups.
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues.
• Optimize network performance.

Automation

• Eliminate repetitive operational work through automation.
• Build deployment automation.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning.
• Develop scripts for operational tasks.
• Improve operational efficiency across engineering.

Reliability Engineering

• Maintain platform uptime and availability.
• Define and monitor SLAs, SLOs and operational metrics.
• Perform incident response.
• Conduct post-incident reviews.
• Drive continuous improvements to platform reliability.

Collaboration

• Work closely with backend engineers during architecture and deployment planning.
• Support engineering teams in production troubleshooting.
• Review infrastructure requirements for new projects.
• Participate in architecture discussions.
• Establish operational best practices across engineering.

Required Skills

• 5+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering.
• Strong Linux administration experience.
• Expert knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
• Extensive AWS experience.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals.
• Experience with PostgreSQL administration.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with monitoring platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch or Datadog.
• Strong scripting skills (Bash and Python).
• Experience managing production systems with high availability requirements.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Familiarity with reverse proxies such as Nginx or Traefik.
• Understanding of security best practices.

Nice to Have

• Experience with FastAPI or Python backend environments.
• Experience with Redis, RabbitMQ, Kafka or NATS.
• Experience operating payment systems or financial infrastructure.
• Experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
• Multi-region cloud deployment experience.
