General Overview:

We are hiring for our client, a leading insurance organisation in the UAE, seeking experienced Medical Underwriters to join their team in Dubai. Multiple opportunities are available across Individual Medical Underwriting, SME Medical Underwriting, and Group Medical Underwriting.

The role will involve assessing medical and claims risk for new business and renewals, applying underwriting guidelines, evaluating and pricing risks, and supporting a profitable portfolio. The ideal candidates will combine strong technical underwriting expertise with sound commercial judgement and the ability to work effectively with sales, client managers, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Assessment & Underwriting:

• Assess underlying claims risk for new business quotations and renewals across Individual, SME, or Group medical portfolios.
• Review application forms and relevant information to evaluate risk in line with prescribed underwriting guidelines.
• Determine appropriate pricing and risk terms using approved underwriting tools and methodologies.
• Balance risk quality, profitability, and revenue when managing assigned portfolios.

Portfolio & Case Management:

• Manage and monitor assigned medical underwriting portfolios, ensuring decisions are accurate, timely, and commercially sound.
• For Individual Medical Underwriting, manage cases through the relevant portal and maintain required approvals within agreed TAT.
• Maintain strong underwriting discipline while ensuring consistent application of guidelines and processes.

Stakeholder Management:

• Clearly communicate risk factors, underwriting rationale, and pricing decisions to Sales and Client Managers.
• Manage stakeholder expectations effectively while maintaining appropriate underwriting standards.
• Work confidently under pressure and deliver decisions within agreed timelines.

Product & Regulatory Knowledge:

• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of medical insurance products, underwriting practices, and the applicable regulatory environment.
• Stay aligned with prescribed policies, underwriting guidelines, and portfolio objectives.

Key Requirements:

Experience & Education:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Health / Medical Underwriting.
• Experience in Individual, SME, or Group Medical Underwriting. Candidates with strong expertise in any one of these areas are encouraged to apply.
• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, or a related discipline.

Technical & Commercial Skills:

• Strong understanding of medical risk assessment, claims risk, underwriting principles, and risk-based pricing.
• Ability to assess new business and renewal risks while maintaining a strong focus on portfolio profitability.
• Good understanding of medical insurance products and the regulatory environment.
