Role Context The Mechanical Technician performs hands‑on maintenance of critical plant machinery and utility equipment to ensure reliable and safe operation. The position covers planned preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, breakdown response, shutdown work, major overhauls, testing, and restoration of equipment to operational service. The role also provides technical guidance to assigned technicians, verifies completed work, maintains accurate maintenance records, and supports workforce development through on-the-job training. Effective execution directly contributes to equipment integrity, reduced downtime, and uninterrupted plant operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive, corrective, breakdown, and shutdown mechanical maintenance on plant equipment.
  • Maintain rotating and static equipment in accordance with approved maintenance procedures and technical requirements.
  • Obtain required work permits from the Area Authority before starting assigned maintenance activities.
  • Review maintenance work orders and confirm the scope, priorities, and operational requirements.
  • Arrange required transport, materials, tools, spare parts, and equipment before commencing work.
  • Allocate maintenance tasks to assigned technicians according to job requirements and available resources.
  • Participate directly in complex troubleshooting and fault diagnosis when advanced technical support is required.
  • Identify mechanical defects and determine suitable repair or replacement actions.
  • Inspect completed maintenance work and verify workmanship before equipment is returned to service.
  • Test repaired equipment to confirm safe and efficient operation.
  • Carry out scheduled routine and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Replace worn, damaged, defective, or unserviceable mechanical components.
  • Arrange and support equipment test runs following repair, adjustment, or overhaul.
  • Perform major overhauls of rotating and static equipment.
  • Measure mechanical clearances accurately during equipment dismantling and reassembly.
  • Inspect internal components and determine whether parts should be reused, repaired, or replaced.
  • Follow approved tolerances, specifications, drawings, and manufacturer recommendations during overhaul work.
  • Support maintenance of pumps, compressors, and other rotating machinery.
  • Maintain static mechanical equipment associated with plant utility systems.
  • Perform maintenance activities on cooling water systems and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Support maintenance of firewater network components and equipment.
  • Maintain mechanical equipment serving instrument air and inert gas generation systems.
  • Support maintenance activities associated with potable water facilities.
  • Maintain mobile pumps and compressors used for operational and emergency requirements.
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance on effluent water disposal systems.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed within assigned time standards.
  • Inform the Maintenance Supervisor when additional manpower, tools, materials, or technical resources are required.
  • Prepare comprehensive daily maintenance activity reports.
  • Document equipment faults, root causes, work performed, materials used, manpower utilized, and time taken.
  • Maintain accurate records supporting maintenance history and future equipment reliability analysis.
  • Implement relevant maintenance policies, systems, standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Follow approved plant operating, maintenance, and safety requirements.
  • Provide on-the-job training to support Competency Based Training and UAE Nationalization programs.
  • Guide less experienced technicians in safe maintenance methods and technical practices.
  • Maintain company‑issued tools, safety equipment, and maintenance gear in serviceable condition.
  • Arrange repair or replacement of defective tools and safety equipment.
  • Maintain good housekeeping throughout maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with applicable HSE requirements.
Ideal Profile

The successful candidate should have practical mechanical maintenance experience within oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, utilities, power generation, or another heavy industrial environment. Strong hands‑on knowledge of rotating equipment, static equipment, pumps, compressors, mechanical assemblies, preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and equipment overhauls is important. Candidates should be capable of diagnosing mechanical faults, measuring equipment clearances, assessing component condition, replacing damaged parts, and verifying equipment performance after maintenance.
