The Mechanical Engineering Technician will apply practical testing and troubleshooting experience to the development of benchmark tasks that reflect genuine mechanical laboratory and production environments. The assignment focuses on creating technically credible scenarios involving instrumentation setup, sensor readings, calibration data, failure modes, and diagnostic decision-making. The role requires a strong understanding of how mechanical tests are prepared, monitored, interpreted, and documented. Each task must include realistic data, defensible conclusions, and clear evaluation standards so technical outputs can be assessed against professional expectations rather than simplified textbook answers.
Ideal Profile Candidates should ideally bring at least four years of hands-on experience in mechanical testing, laboratory operations, production support, prototype development, maintenance, or a comparable technician environment. An associate degree, trade qualification, technical diploma, or equivalent credential in mechanical engineering or a related discipline is preferred. Strong practical experience with instrumentation, sensors, measurement devices, and data acquisition systems is important. Candidates should be comfortable preparing test setups, collecting reliable data, interpreting results, and diagnosing equipment or process failures. The role is particularly suited to professionals who have worked with calibration records, mechanical test logs, sensor datasets, inspection reports, and failure documentation. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are essential, together with the ability to explain why a failure occurred and what technical action should follow. Candidates should also be capable of producing structured documentation and detailed evaluation criteria. Experience working independently and handling technical files such as CSVs, spreadsheets, PDFs, and test reports will support success in the remote contractor environment.
This contractor role provides experienced mechanical technicians with an opportunity to convert practical field and laboratory knowledge into realistic technical evaluation content for advanced AI systems. The work values genuine hands-on experience with testing, instrumentation, failure diagnosis, and data interpretation rather than prior artificial intelligence expertise. The project also provides exposure to benchmark design, technical evaluation, structured rubric development, and data-driven engineering assessment. These capabilities are becoming increasingly relevant as AI systems are tested against more complex engineering and industrial scenarios.
Compensation is output-based and paid per approved task, with minimum weekly submission requirements. Selected professionals should be prepared to begin their first assignments within 24-48 hours after completing onboarding.
YO IT Consulting supports technology-focused and specialist project work by connecting experienced professionals with structured technical assignments.
