MediaSource FZC is seeking a Materials Engineer to ensure materials for municipal infrastructure meet specs and regulatory standards. You will support planning, testing, inspection, evaluation, and approval to ensure durability, safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle.

Job Purpose
  • The Materials Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all materials used in municipal infrastructure, transportation, roadworks, stormwater networks, and related construction projects comply with approved specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The role supports the planning, testing, inspection, evaluation, and approval of construction materials to ensure durability, safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
Materials Inspection and Quality Assurance
  • Review and approve material submittals for roads, pavements, stormwater systems, utilities, and related infrastructure projects.

  • Ensure materials comply with municipal standards, project specifications, international codes, and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct inspections of construction materials during procurement, delivery, installation, and implementation stages.

  • Verify quality control and quality assurance processes implemented by contractors and suppliers.

  • Monitor construction activities to ensure proper use of approved materials.

Laboratory Testing and Evaluation
  • Review laboratory test reports for soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, pipes, geotextiles, and other construction materials.

  • Assess material performance and suitability for project requirements.

  • Coordinate testing programs and field sampling activities.

  • Validate testing methodologies and ensure compliance with recognized engineering standards.

  • Recommend corrective actions when materials fail to meet specifications.

Technical Support and Engineering Analysis
  • Provide technical advice on material selection, performance, and lifecycle considerations.

  • Investigate material failures, defects, and quality-related issues.

  • Conduct technical evaluations and root-cause analysis of material performance problems.

  • Support value engineering initiatives by identifying alternative materials and solutions.

  • Assist project teams in resolving engineering and material-related challenges.

Project Coordination
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and testing laboratories regarding material approvals and quality issues.

  • Participate in project meetings and technical reviews.

  • Monitor compliance with approved material specifications throughout project execution.

  • Support project delivery by ensuring timely review and approval of material submissions.

Standards, Compliance, and Documentation
  • Maintain records of material approvals, inspections, testing results, and compliance reports.

  • Ensure adherence to municipal regulations, engineering specifications, environmental requirements, and industry standards.

  • Contribute to the development and updating of material specifications, quality procedures, and technical guidelines.

  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations related to material performance and quality assurance.

Improvement and Innovation
  • Monitor developments in construction materials, sustainable technologies, and industry best practices.

  • Evaluate innovative materials and products for potential municipal applications.

  • Support initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure durability, sustainability, and lifecycle performance.

  • Participate in knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement programs.

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.

Professional Certifications (Preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification.

  • Relevant certifications in material testing, pavement engineering, quality management, or construction materials.

  • Membership in recognized engineering institutions is preferred.

Experience
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in materials engineering, quality assurance, or construction supervision.

  • Experience in municipal infrastructure, roadworks, highways, stormwater networks, and transportation projects.

  • Experience reviewing laboratory testing and material compliance reports.

  • Knowledge of asphalt, concrete, aggregate, soil, and utility construction materials.
