Job summary

Mashreq is seeking a dedicated Fraud Examiner to plan and conduct investigations into fraud allegations of varying complexity within the F&I Division. You will maintain high standards of evidence handling, produce timely reports, and contribute to fraud prevention initiatives across the bank.

The role requires 4+ years of related experience, a CFE certification, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Auditing or related field.

Qualifications

Job description

Job Purpose
  • To plan and undertake investigations into allegations of fraud of varying nature and complexity.
  • To maintain quality and efficiency standards of investigations in accordance with policy and procedure of the F&I Division.
  • To reduce fraud losses (current or future) by efficiently and effectively investigating.
  • To liaise with CB UAE through constant monitoring of their online portal for updation of fraud STR.
  • To adopt a proactive approach and contribute towards implementation of Fraud Prevention & detection measures in all parts of the Bank.
  • To gather, record and securely retain evidence relating to an investigation in accordance with the laid down guidelines of F&I Division.
  • To produce appropriate, timely reports/ MIS to the Head of Fraud and relevant managers as appropriate.

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Conduct formal interviews with suspects and witnesses take statements in accordance with the laid down guidelines of F&I Division.
  • Reduce fraud losses by ensuring timely action/stoppage on cases where funds of the bank or bank's customer may be going to fraudsters and also liaise with various teams through which the funds can be recalled.
  • Report the fraud cases conforming to CB UAE guidelines through its online portal and monitor it constantly for updates from CB, for appropriate actions.
  • Assist the investigation managers in the identification of control weaknesses and implementing solutions and controls for future improvements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of checks and controls to prevent fraud.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of, and to participate in education, training and awareness activities as part of the fraud awareness program.
  • Maintain to a high standard a record of each investigation and prepare the appropriate and necessary paperwork to assist internal and external investigations.
  • Maintain and publish all MIS related to F&I in time and accurately.
  • Liaise with other control functions, for investigations and to develop contacts relevant to the purpose of F&I division with internal control functions and UAE anti fraud forums.
  • Deal promptly with fraud report e-mail, telephone calls, complaints and other notifications relating to fraud.
  • Communicate sensitively and effectively using plain language.
Operating Environment, Framework and Boundaries, Working Relationships
  • Highly specialised role that involves interaction with various groups/ divisions across the bank yet maintaining a robust approach when conducting internal investigations.
  • Study of all case documents and extract relevant information without disturbing the sequences so as to ensure that the findings are helpful and admissible in external investigation/ court of law.
  • Requires a disciplined approach when following the investigation methodology i.e. note‑taking during interviews and preservation of evidence. Knowledge of international best practices and techniques on use of fraud tools required.
  • Sound knowledge of Banking required of all areas of the bank in conduct of Investigations and suggesting process enhancements.
  • An excellent/ongoing working relationship and liaison with local authorities – Police/CID, Central Bank on fraud related issues.
Problem Solving / Complexity / Innovation
  • Use own initiative, sound judgement and experience to reach appropriate decisions in accordance with the aims and objectives of the F&I Division
  • Excellent Analytical skills is needed to understand the data gathered and present it in a MIS form to identify the gaps in processes from the perspective of inherent fraud risks and recommend changes to prevent fraud and under the intricacies of the investigation
  • Hands‑on approach to analysis of information and reporting through Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Exercise control over preparation and submission of MIS reports.
  • Tracks and assesses fraud risks and fraud trends in the region and their impact on the Bank.
  • Coordinating with Fraud Forums in resolving fraud related issues.
Decision Making / Authority
  • Main responsibility will be to conduct an investigation according to the best practices and exercise an objective approach towards investigation. Recommendations towards improvement of processes and/or on the job decisions relating to recommendations for suspension of staff
  • Will be responsible to coordinate with Central bank UAE for all fraud related update and appropriate response on their queries on a daily basis.
  • Will be responsible for forensically examine case details and securely retain evidence relating to an investigation in accordance with the laid down guidelines of F&I Division.
  • Will be responsible to reduce fraud losses (current or future) for bank and its customers.
  • Will be responsible for coordination with law enforcement authorities and even attend court hearings.
  • Recommending fraud write-offs based on results of investigations
Knowledge, skills and Experience
  • Certified fraud Examiner (CFE) certification is required.
  • Demonstrated sound fraud investigation skills in the past with at least 4 years of related experience and should hold a Bachelor Degree in Accounting & Auditing, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Excellent interviewing skills.
  • Ability to handle pressure and tough situations.
